Thanks about reply. Yes, I downloaded user manuals and there is quite detailed describtion how to remove motherboard.

I am quite happy with my current setup because this laptop is very silent during web browsing. I looked the old messages on this forum and noticed that you mentioned that with AMD GPU M6600 uses always AMD GPU not integrated one. Now I am wondering does this mean that system will generate much more heat and fans will start to run more which generates more noise? If that is the case I think I will stay with this Quadro 4000M eventhough I already bougt the Firepro M6100.

Can someone let me know if that 1,5mm thermal pads are OK to M6100 Firepro?

 

Enduro was not a supported feature at the time of release of this machine so that means there isnt any Intel HD in the middle. Personally I prefer it that way as you have more control over the behavior of the machine but I was always chasing performance and consistency at that time.

 

Well I'm still lost. I haven't found eDP cable what I could use for this machine except changing display to IPS, which still makes me bit concerned about the fact that I would need to buy full display back panel with the wiring, then interceptor board, and side bracked + IPS display. eDP LCDs exist too, no? Maybe if I had money I would try the whole change of display assembly or even buying M6700 or M6800..? Does anyone know about usable eDP display cable that would not required IPS display? Thanks PS: I'm student. Just trying to get good mobile workstation for cheap. And yes it's "good enought" for school but I like to play games and gaming PC isn't much of option for me.

 

I will again recommend that you check out the M6700 "3D" eDP cable and see if it fits the M6600 motherboard. You can find it on eBay for $20 or less. I suspect that it will fit and it will let you attach a more standard eDP display, without requiring you to get the interposer / thicker display assembly / etc. to attach the IPS panel.

But there still will be rather limited options as far as actual eDP panels that you can use. Samsung made a 120Hz 1080p panel that you can try. Newer panels will require some rigging because the mounts / screw holes will not match up. @TheQuentincc got a 4K panel working in the M6700.

You have more options with the M6700 — you can use NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs (GeForce 970M, 980M, Quadro M5000M) which do not require that you use an eDP panel.

 

I have to take my words back. As I mentioned I bought M4600 as well and I must admit that it is dead silence compared to this M6600.

What I looked from Speccy program the M6600 CPU temeprature on web browsing is around 55 celsius and fan is running maybe 50% speed. This is totally different behaviour than my M4600 because it seems that fans only _starts_ spinning when CPU temperatures are around 65 celsius. Until that it seems that they are not spinning at all. This is really good because it is so silent in light web browsing most of the time. I do not have any additional program (Speedfan etc) either in this M4600 machine so just wondering can I somehow put similar cooling settings to M6600 what I have now on M4600?

Another question:

I just add 2X4GB DDR3L ram sticks to my M4600. Now it has 2X4GB DDR3 ram sticks so I thought I could upgrade my ram from 8GB-->16GB. However after putting these new sticks to motherboard the system could not even boot to BIOS. Why is that? Sticks should be fine because I took them from my old Acer E1-771 computer where those worked just fine.

I removed those DDR3L sticks and I am happy becauce computer works again. Just wondering why system was not able to even boot to BIOS.

You can install the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack which will add some options to Windows advanced power settings, allowing you to set the thermal mode (default/quiet/cool/performance) which can have an impact on the fan behavior. Otherwise, you can check the link in my signature for other fan control options.

The system might not boot with mismatched RAM modules if the timings are not compatible. You could look at CPU-Z and see if other settings besides the speed match up between the modules (CAS latency, etc.).

If I understand right the i5 processor is dual core which does not supports more than 2 ram slot. Maybe that caused my problem that system did not ther support any ram?

 

Oh yes, I forgot about that because it hasn't been a consideration for so long. The rule is the number of CPU cores. If you have a dual-cure CPU it can only use two RAM slots; quad-core can use all four. So... If you could find a quad-core 2nd-gen mobile CPU to stuff in as an upgrade then you could unlock the extra RAM slots.

 

Unfortunately that Dell program did not help. Maybe this laptop has more agressive cooling settings due to i7 CPU which provides more heat.

When I have time I will change that motherboard, change paste to CPU/GPU and update that Firepro M6100. If that Firepro generates too much heat on web browsing I was wondering if I can just switch off the Firepro from device manager and enable it only when it is really needed. Does this sytem then use integrated HD3000 graphics which is enough for videos and web surfing?

 

To use graphics switching in this system, you must have an NVIDIA GPU. With an AMD GPU, the AMD GPU will be active all of the time and the Intel GPU will be disabled.

You can physically remove the dGPU card and run with Intel graphics only. In this case, though, you will not be able to use any display output ports except for VGA.
