M6600 Owners Thread

Do you mind showing how this looks? Don't know if I can use the bracket for my 8900 or if i have to purchase another Xbracket for the m290x I want to purchase.

 

Hey bud, what GPU died on you? If it's any help I live in the UK and have a spare Firepro M8900 from when I upgraded my M6600, can send it to you if you cover postage.

While I wait to get a m290x or 6100 to replace my 8900 (fried) is there a way to use the integrated graphics without using safe mode?

I can use safe mode to boot and I'm assuming its using integrated graphics but is there a way I can use that by default or without safe mode? I don't see an option in Bios to disable the 8900

 

It does not use integrated graphics in safe mode. It uses your discrete GPU, but without a driver loaded, it just uses the Microsoft basic VGA driver. You should be able to pull this off in normal mode by going to device manager, going to update the driver for your GPU, and selecting "Browse my computer" ... "Let me pick" ... and select the Microsoft basic display adapter from the list.

If you physically remove the MXM GPU, the system will boot and run on Intel integrated graphics. You will not be able to use the HDMI or DisplayPort outputs.

Anyway, do you find it odd that even though the 8900 is fried it can still work with the basic driver? I mean I understand its way under-powered at that point but maybe I can revive it somehow? (putting it in the over with foil paper method XD )

 

Hi, what does the maximum resolution that M6600 can support? Can I output the display to QHD or 4K (UHD) external monitors with docks?

What is the version of display port located right hand side of the machine ? 1.2 or 1.1?

It is DP 1.1, DP 1.2 was not introduced until the M6700. It might be able to do 4K at 30 Hz. ePort dock DisplayPorts are the same (the DP version is based on the system, not on the dock).

 

Hello. I have M6600 and two HDD connected in RAID 0 configuration. I decided to move on to M6800. Will I be able to plug those two hard drives from M6600 into M6800 and work on it, or will I have to erase them and create new RAID 0 configuration losing everything? If nobody knows answer to this question, than maybe somebody know if our RAID controller in M6600 is software, hardware or controlled by Windows?

 

If you set up RAID using the Intel Rapid Storage tool, that's a hardware RAID controller. Pretty sure that you won't be able to move the drives directly, you'll have to back up the data, build the new RAID array on the M6800, and then restore the data. (But... I've never tried it myself.)

 

OK, bought a M6800 and move my RAID 0 disks from M6600 to a new machine and they work straight away, plug n play. The only difference is how Intel Rapid Storage showing the order of the disks when booting. In M6600 it was like:

1) RAID 0 member
2) RAID 0 member
3) non-raid member ( this was mSATA drive )

and on M6800 it is

1) RAID 0 member
2) non-raid member ( mSATA )
3) RAID 0 member

So, not a problem at all. If anybody will want to change from M6600 to M6800, you can keep your RAID disks.
