Not familiar with the model but are there no screw holes around the edge? Whatever caddy you get, you'll have to removing the mounting bracket (small metal bit held in place by two screws) from the back of your optical drive and attach it to your caddy in order to screw it in to the M6600.

In the pictures, it does have holes for screws in the back. It looks like it should work to me.

I have a newmodeus caddy in my M4800 that is definitely held with a screw (the same one that was securing the optical drive before). I'd assume it's the same arrangement on the 6600.

    Thanks, Aaron44126 and alexawker.

I think you are right. I had read the reviews on that page I linked to earlier and there people were saying it could not be screwed into place even though the pictures do seem to indicate otherwise. After a little more research I found what looks to be the same product and there the official description clearly states that it can be screwed into the laptop so I bought it. Thankfully it is cheaper too!

Anyone who is interested can see it here:

One quick question. Is there any point buying a SSD (re the DVD connection) or will a regular 2.5" HD be just as fast?

    Thanks.

I'm not positive but I'd guess the dvd sata connection is probably sata iii. Even if it's not, an ssd still be faster and noticeable.

I think this may actually just be a SATA-2 connection, but it doesn't matter, an SSD will still run circles around a regular hard drive thanks to the much reduced seek time. That said, it depends on what you're using it for --- for the OS drive and programs, I always recommend an SSD, but if you are just using it to store files, a regular hard drive may well be completely fine.

Thanks, guys. The HD is just to be used as a triple temporary back up option. The other HDs in the laptop are SSDs. This one will be 1TB and just hold files and a system image (just in case). Really appreciate all your help.

I get the following messages on my m6600 since upgrading to Windows 10.

    First this message pops up:

    Intel Rapid Storage Technology
disk on port 3 - detected

Then this message follows in quick succession:

    Intel Rapid Storage Technology
disk on port 3 - removed

Anyone have any idea what these messages mean?

    Thank you!

    hey everyone.

wondering if anyone is in a position to compare the cooling on the m4600 and the m6600. Im thinking of getting a low spec m6600 and swapping my sandy bridge cpu into it (roughly equivalent to 2960xm). However, it runs really hot in my m4600. Does the m6600 have better cooling?
