Thanks! Great to know that Vertex 3 is working for you. As far as write speed, it seems up to par with other benchmarks that I've seen in the Internet.

    Thanks!

Hi, I have a problem with my M6600. Looks like something wrong with third party SSD drives or maybe driver/SATA mode/controller.

Corsair Force 3 120GB (perfectly working in two different computers) is reconized in BIOS, recognized by OS (windows 7) but attempt to create volume and format are failed (tried several times). Windows Disk Magager hangs everytime when try to format drive in both slots for primary and secondary HDD.

Intel SSD X25-M 160GB was suspicious slow. HDtune 255 showing 169MB/s and very large changes (normally SSD has a flatline in HDtune).
Same Intel SSD tested in another PC has 220MB/s and flatline in HDtune.

Maybe there is a problem of proper SATA setting in BIOS. In my tests it was RAID mode, then changed to AHCI. As default HDD is instaled uder AHCI, I cannot test the ATA mode. Any suggestion ?

    p.s.
Also please note that there are physical problem in putting typical SSD to secondary HDD slot. There are some copper radiator that making putting in the SSD drive difficult (typical HDD has lower part on thier back which probably let omit this problem).

On a different subject now, if you please:

Everyone (including myself) are missing the good old days of 16:10, large laptop displays. Apart from the obvious disadvantage of the current 16:9 trend (less real estate available for anything apart than a HD video playback), I have noticed something very annoying with how some system fonts in some applications are displayed...

But let me start from the beginning: all of you guys have noticed that the default GUI font size is factory-set to 125% (enlarged; while it's really big and clear it makes even less real estate available). On my previous 15.6" XPS, I immediately changed to 100% (smaller fonts), and - while allowing to fit more on the screen - caused effects like in the attached screen grab from Sony Vegas Pro (some fonts do NOT scale down properly, and cause field overflow and window corruption):

    font too high.JPG

When waiting for my M6600, I was hoping that with the larger 17.3" screen this will not be a problem any more - you can imagine my dismay when I saw the problem still persists!

Now, my question to you guys is the following: are those using US W7 version AND the US Locale settings, seeing the same problem with some applications? Because what I'm suspecting is that - with my Locale set to Poland - Windows may simply be unable to find the right size of certain fonts for my Default Language. If it so, do you know of any fix to this problem?

    TIA

    Piotr

I have enabled write cache for my RAID 0 in the Intel RST app, and my two Dell 750GB - based RAID 0's large transfers have improved:

    2x 750GB RAID 0 with write cache enabled.JPG

So now I must say I'm really satisfied with my choice; yes I never achieve the over 300 MBps transfers that people are reporting here with their aftermarket drives, but at least all my system is covered by Dell Extended Warranty in its entirety...

    Hi Bokeh...

Thanks for posting your findings with the WLED and touch screens.

A while back when I profiled the WLED as well I found the native whitepoint was very blue at nearly 10k:

(see earlier post at http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/580712-m6600-owners-thread-46.html )

I'm using exactly the same profiling hardware as you, and would prefer to be able to leave the whitepoint at native so as not to have the gamut compressed by trying to hit 6500 exactly. I'm a bit surprised that native measurement I got is so far off 6500 when you're nearly exactly right out of the box!

Any chance you could try to find out some more details about the panels you have on your 6600's? Hardware details for mine are in the earlier post I think, it's a screen with the webcam included. Can you think of anything obvious that might result in me getting such a blue native reading?

    Cheers,

    J

No - as far as Autodesk is concerned, it works with Inventor here. Also, the Q4000M is used with most video players (WMP, VLC,...).

PS. Oh, and of course CUDA is used - in my number-cruching CAE application (Moldflow), and in AVCHD rendering in Vegas Pro!

Will post when I see something, but still mostly using M6400 until I get the M6600 Czech keyboard replaced and do a fresh install with mSSD and dual 750GB. Also trying to figure out how close Dell 1TB will be available as oem are usually first before retail availability.

My focus is Dell stock HD versus aftermarket on sequential read/write so I put together a summary of recent M6600 posts:

    TOSHIBA 500GB MK5061GSY (Stock DELL M6600)
    Seq Read: 78 MB/s
    Seq Write: 76 MB/s

    Seagate 750GB (Stock DELL M6600)
    Seq Read: 119 MB/s
    Seq Write: 118 MB/s

Dual RAID 0 Seagate 750GB (Stock DELL M6600)
    Seq Read: 221 MB/s
    Seq Write: 237 MB/s

WESTERN DIGITAL SCORPIO BLACK 750GB WD7500BPKT
    Seq Read: 128 MB/s
    Seq Write: 114 MB/s

Samsung 128 GB mSSD (Stock DELL M6600)
    Seq Read: 236 MB/s
    Seq Write: 205 MB/s

    Crucial C300 128GB SSD
    Seq Read: 327 MB/s
    Seq Write: 144 MB/s

OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (no model details given)
    Seq Read: 440 MB/s
    Seq Write: 168 MB/s

Most notable is the significant 750GB outperformance over 500GB.
One wonders how Dell stock 1TB will compare to 750GB?

The WD 750GB has a small edge on Seagate 750GB (Stock DELL M6600) but that also depends on read vs write.

Interesting that Samsung 128 GB mSSD (Stock DELL M6600) outperforms other SSD sequential writes.

Also interesting that Dell stock mSSD and HD have balanced read/write rates.

Would be great if someone posted results for Samsung 128 GB mSSD (Stock DELL M6600) with RAID 1 Dual Seagate 750GB (Stock DELL M6600).

I have a request, I was testing out the new system and I seem to have come to an odd problem. With nothing changed I attempted to look up a few videos on YouTube. The video seemed to play fine (even at 1080p). Yet when I switched to hulu to catch up on a few shows I was seeing the video jitter or stumble when playing. The audio was fine, yet the video would not play smoothly. In addition I attempted to turn off hardware acceleration but it also did not help. Any help on this?
