Sorry, I forgot to mention I have M6700, not M6600.

 

Has anyone tried to install the new Mx000M quadro cards or even the FirePro W7170M ?

The new Dell 7710 is looking great. I may get that one: 2 M2 ports plus support to new quadro cards are a big plus. Lacking USB 3.1 is a big minus.

 

How easy is it to replace the screen on the M6600 and what is the best screen I can get to replace the one I have now? I want matt, non touch.

Also, what else can I upgrade on the M6600 to speed it up a bit? I already have good SSDs, 16GB RAM - is it worth upgrading to 32GB with newer RAM? Any other ideas please?

And what about 0.5mm thick? It will be ok?

 

That should be fine, just make sure you check the contact for the core and heatsink. I sometimes just remove the heatsink right after tightening the screw to make sure. Bad temp week tell as well, but physically checking just avoid the need to take the whole thing apart again.

I have 32Gb RAM. Worth it? depending on what you need. For 3d modeling/sculpting apps as zbrush i find it well worthy. Or if you run virtual machines. Other than that, dont think you will notice improvement.

Biggest improvement would be upgrading GPU.
I have a 5010M that is better than your Quadro 4000M (and want to upgrade it). you could go Kx000

I have replaced screens on other notebooks and it is usually not hard but it is a pain

 

I agree with bulls4ever, 32GB will probably not improve your experience unless you're using really memory hungry apps. You can check Task Manager (CTRL-ESC) while your regular apps are running to see how much memory you're using.

It's a little risky, but you could try putting 2 SSDs in RAID 0. This will theoretically double your disk access speed. This brings up an interesting question; would it be possible to put a SATA III 2.5" SSD and the mSATA II slot in RAID 0? I've got a 128GB mSATA and a 128GB SATA III drive...

I posted earlier in the month about some USB problems. Seems the USB 2.0 ports are still a little flaky, but the USB 3.0 ports are fine. It was just a bad mouse.

 

You can do this but your throughput will be capped to the speed of the slowest drive (times two).

 

Ctrl-shift-esc I believe.
