It turns out that my warranty is good until Oct of this year. What are the chances that Dell will replace my M6600? I think the motherboard is bad.

Call support and see what they say. I had the mobo replaced in my M6700 with no hassle (turned out to not be required to fix my problem though). I see that you have been messing with replacing the GPU. They may request that you put it back in its original hardware configuration before supporting it under warranty (depending on the issue).

I put a new video card in (same model) and have the same problem. It will boot in VGA mode but the color is low, like 8 bit and the res is 640px

As soon as I install the m8900 drivers and reboot, I get the 'Windows is starting screen" but the screen goes blank before the login screen. I wiped my hardrive and installed the original OS (Win 7 Pro) too.

I get no errors when I run the diagnostics. I got a video memory error with the old card but no errors with the new one.

Cool. I hope so. I'd take either one. Will definitely put the original video card back in too.

How many displays can you run with the intel hd3000 disabled - I will need to use the system with Nvidia gpu only as it turns out the aoftware I'm using really hates optimus...

M6600 can only use two displays with Optimus disabled. This can be any combination of internal screen, VGA, HDMI, DP, DVI (on dock). Later models (M6700+) can use four displays at once with Optimus disabled.

My used m6600 is working well but was curious on temps. I have a i7-2820QM and will hit about 77C with prime 95. For the GPU i have the m6100 and with furmark will hit about 83C. Are these pretty much in line? Room temp is 72F.

CPU is fine, GPU is a little bit high (if on stock vbios).
