at first i just took the DC cable out and replaced and left the other one laying at the table.
Went to get it to throw it out and noticed it has burn in the connector ...

so likely the motherboard got fried due to some power issues. And as it seems to be the case, it bugs me the cable was never checked and replaced

    Touch Screen
I getting ready to put in my 3rd replacement touch screen for randomly touch itself. I'd like to know a few things:
    1. Can i just buy a thin cover and regular screen to replace the touch?
    2. Does anyone have any idea why they go bad? I never use the touch feature.
    3. Is there a digitizer wire that can be disconnected to fool the laptop into thinking it is non-touch, and not burn up the battery? Disabling it in device manager does not help.

I will never buy a laptop or PC monitor with a touch screen again. There are too many disadvantages:
    1. They need replacing every couple years
    2. They use significantly more battery
    3. The screen viewing angles are a lot less.
    4. It makes the laptop thicker and heavier.
    5. Nobody uses it because it is unproductive and awkward. Touch only makes sense on tablets and phones.

    Thanks!

You can replace it, you need bezel, back cover, cable and screen panel. Touch is really rare, don't really know the answer xD. I have a feeling you can disable them somewhere somehow..

dont think touchscreen monitor is awkward. But u need a flex arm to work with it to be more productive. check this video

. I thought about having the touchscreen version but them i agree with you. for notebook it is awkward and decided not to get for the reasons you described. a tablet would work great. or even my Samsung galaxy as tablet (there is an app to convert it into tablet but i have never tried)

problem on changing screens is that you have to change lcd cover and likely other things making it not so cheap. if you find a cable to disable touchscreen you would be gold.

You are probably aware of this but I thought I would mention it just in case you aren't. If phantom touches are happening, run the Touch Tuning from the N-trig utility. I usually need to do this every 8-10 months. This process calibrates the touch panel to its surroundings and is different than the "Touch Calibration" where you are touching the corners of the screen. That process calibrates the display to the touch panel.

Also, any debris between the touch panel & bezel can cause phantom touches, even in areas away from the bezel.

The video card in my M6600 died today. One day after I installed Windows 10. LOL Started to get driver failed and recovery errors with a messed up screen. I re-installed my old drivers and the new ones, nothing. I can only get it working via the VGA port to an external monitor and that has 2 bars on the screen. Tried safe mode with the MS drivers, no luck.

I don't think the m6800 has an IPS screen option? So far I only found the HPZBook 17 G2 with DreamColor.

Why not get a new GPU if performance is satisfactory?

    Warranty expired 4 months ago.
How hard is it to replace?
