A question about booting from a USB port on the M6600...

I need to boot from a USB drive but do not see that boot option in the BIOS.

My boot options look like this:

    Legacy Boot:
    Internal HDD
    CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
    Internal HDD
    Other Options:
    BIOS Setup
    Diagnostics
Intel (R) Management Engine BIOS Extension (MEBx)

Is it possible to boot from a USB drive on an M6600?

You have to put the flash drive in one of the left side usb 2 ports before powering up. Then press F12 about half way through POST blue bar. USB will then be an option.

    Got it...thank you!

When they recently replaced the bad AMD 8900 graphics card with the AMD M6100 graphics card, the hard drive got corrupted along with the restore partition. When I did a reinstall to fix that issue, I had some screen flickering on startup and shutdown and the autoplay menu does not come up when I insert a usb drive. Weird.

So I am attempting to do another clean reinstall using a usb drive Dell just sent me as I am still under warranty. Since I can not do a factory restore, I am using your latest driver list once again.

So thank you for that updated list!

Hey guys, just got a M6600 with the FirePro M8900. I installed the Catalyst drivers to get it recognized as the 6970M and all is fine. Overclocked to 800/1100 no issues. Just wondering though, when playing FFXIV @ 1080p my GPU temp sits at a steady 79-82c and fluctuates around those values. Should I bother repasting the GPU or is that temperature range completely acceptable under 100% load?

I also just remembered that the M6600 is a laptop from mid-2011 so the paste/padding is probably relatively old. I dunno if that even makes a difference but it's worth considering I guess?

Those tempa seem fine from what i remember. Youncan try elevating the back of the notebook to reduce temperatures a bit.

Hey guys, firstly I apologize if its been mentioned at some point or another in the thread regarding the questions im about to ask. I'm not getting any love from OCN about the potential of this machine.

The first thing that drew me to this workstation is its ability to house 32GB of RAM. I am in need of a VM box server machine that I can put in a backpack as my wife lives in Korea, and I dont want to pay for shipping on a desktop.

Im also in need of a gaming platform. The K53SV with the 540m has definitely seen its age. If I were to get a m6600 with only integrated graphics, what would I need to do to get the GPU running? Will I run into BIOS restrictions like the Lenovo Y series?

I am definitely not afraid to tear down the laptop in its entirety, Ive been taking apart laptops for some time now. The only thing I worry about is BIOS restriction issues when installing the GPU. I was looking at the M6100 as it seems to be a great performer in games.

Have anyone here seen an m6600 working with 32GB ram?

    Thanks in advance everyone

    32gb is cake.
m6100 will work fine, get 1mm thermal pad or stack .5mm for the vram(if the old one is not there. Check paste spread after screw the heatsink down (lift it back up) to ensure good contact. The m6100 die is lower compare to m8900 or n cards.

if you have time to hunt, you can find 1 with m6100 at similar price compare to one with old gen card.

heck ,you can sell a 6970m and that money is enough to can buy a m6100.

I just got the m6600 as well for 500

    i7 2620m (replacing with my i7 2670qm)
    16GB (8GBx2)
500GB HDD (replacing with my 240GB SSD)
m8900 (might take baii's advice and sell it off for the m6100)

I plan to expand to 32GB for running all my virtual machines and school work etc etc. Though I do plan on doing some gaming as well.

Has anyone tried the eGPU with this machine?
