I had a total failure with error code 2000-0332 "video memory - video memory integrity test discrepancy". Luckily my Precision M6600 is still under warranty. (until 08/2014)

Today I got a new motherboard as well as a new AMD FirePro M6100 for my broken AMD FirePro M8900 installed.

First I recognized was that I did not get the drivers installed. Maybe the Precision M6600 needs a clean install, because there are only old drivers installed.

Is the M6100 way better compared to the M8900?
On paper the M8900 is not that bad with memory bandwith 256bit vs 128bit or unified pipelines 960 vs 768.
But the stock clockspeed of the M6100 is a nice upgrade.
I cant really estimate the raw power of the new M6100 compared to the M8900.

2 different architectures, m6100 should run much cooler idle and under load.
Need some digging for the benchmarks, forgot about them a while ago.

If you go few pages back you will see my benches with m6100. It has almost twice the power m8900 has and runs cooler. Very nice card and the reason I'm not even thinking about selling my machine.

    EDIT: clicky for M6100 benches

3D mark gives me almost double performance from both recollection and looking up online tests for 6970M (same chip as M8900)

Heaven when comparing same resolutions gives also double frame rates.

I dont remember which version of Specview i ran, but certain tests show also almost double performance.

Yes its interesting that M6100 has only 128bit memory bus and less shaders but offers double the performance.

I have already seen your results of the FirePro M6100 but unfortunately I have no reference values of the FirePro M8900.

    That is really wired.

Tomorrow I want to reinstall the whole system - maybe with Windows 8 64bit.
Do I have something to consider before installing the graphic driver? Order of installation...
Which one would you suggest? I dont use the Precision M6600 for CAD applications, just for the everydays use and games.

Now I run the standard catalyst driver which recognizes the card as 8950.
I dont think that is the best way but I had troubles installing the FirePro driver from the Dell homepage.

Compare my m6100 to 6970m scores on notebookcheck. Its the same gpu as m8900.

I only play 1 game on it atm. That is world of tanks and compared to m8900 i went from medium details on 1080p to high with vsync and fxaa on. Stable 60fps allmost all the time compared to 6970m which sometimes went down to 30fps on lower details. This gpu has quite a kick.

Question is if you use your GPU as a FirePro or as a Radeon HD 8950M.
Therefore I asked which driver you are using at the moment.

    Greetings,

I desperately need your help, please.

    Dell M6600 Windows 7 Pro x64.

I have got a very annoying and frustrating problem I am unable to resolve.
After having calibrated my monitors (primary – Generic one, secondary Dell E2011H) using Spyder4Pro which I had used previously without any problems, I slightly changed main monitor brightness by shifting a slider within Power Options windows (a slider at the bottom of the window).
A few seconds later the monitor (I will write only on the main one – the second mentioned works well) started blinking and finally became black.
After trying several ways to remedy the issue I have found that pulling out the power adapter cable from a back restores the display. When I insert the adapter cable the problem reappears.
The other curious observation is that if I change my customized power setting based on Balanced scheme (in this particular case) to one of Dell build-in plan the display seems to be stable (at least while I am writing these words). I am not certain but I’d say that the system does not accept any customized/created power plans.
The problem described above really stress me out. I have got no control of the system display and I have been nervously awaiting the monitor starts blinking or turns off the display.
I will deeply appreciate any helpful clue to solve that mostly arduous experience.

I have double-checked the power adapter . It works well.
