Well i still haven fire up games like bf and metro so that could be a reason for such a difference. Also your room is much hotter.

This is my 3dmark 13 score.

EDIT: I'll slowly do more and more tests, at least one a day and post the result here. All settings within drivers are default as they come installed. Using "Ultra performance" power preset while testing.
Max temp for GPU that i have so far observed: 67 during 1 hour of World of Tanks, used this as as "test" as no game ever came close to heating my GPU-s as this one. All max temps during benchmarks were quite lower.
EDIT2: Max temperatures after 1 hour of Metro Last light benchmark - 70c both gpu and cpu, ambient temp 21.5c, slight elevation of the back of the laptop
EDIT3: Metro Last Light + Specview test have to be rerun, as whenever i have anything that reads Dell EC sensor i get weird system stuttering, which can be noticed in graph from MLL link, thus resulting in lower scores than they should be

So tests for FirePro M6100 FireGL V 2GB go here:
(Rest of the system is i7 2720qm, 2x4gb ddr3 1600 mhz, crucial m500 240gb + seagate 750, ultra preset in Dell Power Manager)

    3dmark 11: 5600 (performance preset) Link
    3dmark 13: Firestrike 3308, Cloudgate 137.51, Icestorm 96641 Link
    Heaven 4.0,
Extreme preset: FPS 21.2, Score 535, min fps 12.6, max 45.5 Link
Basic Preset: FPS: 68, Score 1714, min fps 8.8, max fps 131.9
WEI: 7.7 (M8900 was 7.1-2, dont remember correctly) Link.
Specview (i think 11) - those scores look cpu dependant - so any system with haswell cpu (m6800) will score much higher.

    Hullo,

After reinstalling Windows 7 64bit Pro on M6600 computer I notice I have NO USB boot option in one-time boot list (F12).
USB device is on the second place in BIOS boot sequence (F2).

USB ports works find. I can use all devices connected to them. Although external keyboard remains inactive till the Windows logon screen.

Because of the above I am not able to perform windows backup Image restore directly from an external HD used previously to backup the system. Attempting this I have a prompt to install the driver that I cannot localise.

I will deeply appreciate any helpful suggestion to solve the problem.
Thank you very much in advance,

USB Boot only works trough usb 2.0 ports on left side, also usb keyboard and mouse work (in pre windows environment) if they are connected to any of the usb 2.0 ports on the machine.

    I thank you very much.
I have verified the option while USB Pen Drive inserted to one of two USB 2.0 port pointed (left side). Having this I have the boot USB option listed in one-time list.

However when I connect a mouse and a keybord (Logitech one) to the left USB ports, the keybord remains inactive/disabled till the Windows logon screen appears. More precisely the keybord becomes highlighted once the system starts but it remains non-responsive (until logon).

Once again I thank you for solving my stress. Have you got any idea on the keybord issue described above?

Try the back port for keyboard esata/usb combo one. My logitech wireless keyboard is working fine in bios. In any of the 3 usb 2.0 ports. Does your keybord require any special drivers to work?

I have connected a Logitech (quite standard wired) keybord to the back port. Keboard reacts as previously. No activation until screen logon.
I wander if there is some setup to perform within the system options.

No, my keyboard does not require any additional driver to work. Just Logiech Setpoint 6.32 - I use a Logitech g9x mouse as well.

    PS
In Device Manager I have got three items listed under Keyboards:

    HID Keyboard Device
    Logitech HID Compliant Keyboard
    Standard PS/2 Keyboard

Your temperatures are decent, i see no point in repasting, in your place i would only clean the dust of the fan. Afordable and good paste is arctic mx-4.

    Hi All...

I was using my m6600 today and then the screen went blank but stayed blue. I figured I had hit a key combination to turn on external screen or something so I got on another device and turned up nothing on a websearch so I opted for a hard reset as connecting an external monitor made no difference.

Upon hard reboot I was given the option by win 7 64 to go into safe mode etc as would be expected as usual after a hard reset.

I went for the normal option and the windows logo appeared and then once it finished I would usually be launched into login screen but this time the screen stayed solid black.

I did another hard reset using the power off button and booted again... i was suspecting a gpu driver failure ( i am on the ATI Firepro M8900 )
When presented with the safe mode options I chose safe mode with networking to be able to download new drivers and clean out the older drivers more efficiently.

I found the AMD cleanup utility online... downloaded it and tried to clean out previous drivers.

Upon cleaning I rebooted into regular windows 7 without issue although screen resolutions were low simply because the drivers were not in play.

I was previously using the AMD Catalyst 13 drivers but this time I opted for downloading the drivers that appear on the re-imaging thread on here as I figured that the drivers I was using were probably too recent for this device.

After download and install of the new drivers version 8.85.7.8-VW-WHQL-111219a-131807C-Dell_setup_ZPE.exe I noticed that there was a failure in the install and it finished and requested a reboot. I complied thinking it might work even though there was a notice of the install failure. It didn't work. I booted to a blank screen.

I was ever more suspicious and then hard reset again and booted into the bios just to have a look... I noticed when in the bios application there are yellow vertical lines down the screen?? I have no idea what is going on there.

I then restarted from there going back into safe mode with networking just to post this.

Obviously something is going on and I am a bit concerned that my video motherboard might be having issues. Especially with the vertical lines on the screen as seen in the bios.

Does anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this?

I am going to do another deep clean of the drivers now just in case it is the drivers and try one more time to install the same drivers above to see if i can get a clean install.

    ** update

Did the deep clean and another installation of the drivers mentioned above... complete fail on install.

Did yet another clean of the drivers again and then downloaded the latest ATI catalyst drivers direct from AMD.

Installed the drivers with no issues and then rebooted. Upon reboot same issue again... I see the windows symbol and then a blank screen. The OS has definitely loaded behind this black screen and plugging into an external monitor I can see that win 7 is attempting to switch but again... no output..

I thought to include a picture of the strange lines in the bios.

    m6600-suspect-video-card-fail.jpg

When I boot into bios I see a yellow flash of these lines then it settles into being this color.

I am quite worried now... from my understanding it appears that the gpu is having big issues.

    Any and all helps appreciated.
