I decided to try the new intel 7260 wireless AC with bluetooth...

Mostly I was curious if it would improve battery life on wifi since it's a newer card and bluetooth is integrated...

It all works :).... I disconnected the dell usb bluetooth adapter, removed the old 6300 adapter, put in the new one connected 2 of the 3 antenna wires and everything works great..

bluetooth 4.0 LE works too (it can connect to my fitbit even.. but it won't sync using it because of the fitbit software)

I plan on getting an AC access point soon... but so far the speeds on N have been the same as they were before.. (I'm not sure which antennas would be the best... originally I tried black and white, right now I'm using grey and white)...

Alright, I was able to finally get enough time to run AIDA64 while stressing the system off and on throughout a two hour period. I was also able to compare the reported temps against some data I already had on file. It appears the data being reported coincides with what others are seeing. It also looks (to me) the VRM temps are multiplying themselves by a factor of two (+/-10%).

So, I agree; the various software utilities are most likely getting confused by either the Dell embedded controller sensor (whether or not active) or another computational bug.

The system runs fine and has been for over a year so I am not worried and do not believe others should be. Likewise, even if 40C feels hot to touch, it is not and is in line with the idle temps. The typical human touch maxes out at 54C, which is well below 50% of the video card's HW max.

    Scott-

I wouldn't push/rush anyone to reimage just for the sake of it. No you aren't going to get a performance boost.

I have a sense that it does seem somewhat more stable. Could be just me though.

Our machines have the older/first? version of UEFI and No Secure Boot.

Setting up partitions manually for UEFI with Win 7 only requires two additional small partitions with little configuration change.
Being that the future is going to stay this way, might as well become familiar with it - starting when the next reimage is necessary.

There is a lot of info out there about the positives and negatives, mostly positive.
And there is the little detail of more than three primary partitions available and accommodating larger drive sizes.

For me, I wanted to get started with it. First time setting it up without good help was difficult. After figuring out how, and making the same mistakes that even the new owners of W8 and 8.1 are making - there is a way make the process less difficult to traverse. Basically to know what you're doing before starting.

    :)

I've migrated about 10 systems from legacy/MBR to UEFI/GPT now with no trouble. It's not "simple" (requires booting a Linux live CD and running a command-line tool) but all of my systems survived with no issues. If you're interested I'll write up the process.

Seems people use the reimage guide, so if you want to write one up for existing conversion - I'll be happy to include it there.

I don't know if there would be much demand for it; I guess that would depend on the benefits they think could be gained (reward?) and corresponding to their adventurousness level.

Got a question here and i guess this is the best place to ask it. :)

Im a Clevo owner BUT my P170HM is showing signs of wear and tear on the chassis and so i been looking for a new system that would work with most of the parts currently being used on the Clevo. So while looking around i found the nice review here and tried to check out if my parts would fit or not.

My i7-2960XM would probably fit inside without issues as well as RAM, Storage and my Intel 6300 wireless card but i am uncertain my Clevo GTX 680M 4GB and my screen (AU Optronics B173HW01 V5) would work. I went for the Clevo because of its boring design that lacks flashy stuff so the M6600 fits perfectly with its buisness friendly look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 680m may need a vbios flash, would have to dig some old thread. the panel sould have no problem working, though you probably want to use the m6600 lvds cable.
