I have already posted this message in the TS thread but no answer so far so i'm gonna try my luck here also.

What are the odds that my system (config in signature) will still throttle the gpu even with TS on? And is there something I can do?

How I tested for gpu throttling:

ultra performance power plan (dell specific that limits throttling) - also tried with high performance and balanced, intelburn test + unigine running in the background and monitoring gpu frequencies with msi afterburner and cpu frequency with both hwinfo and ts main window.

The cpu will not go over 90 degrees and the gpu stays in the range of 70 degrees.

Even after first 2 minutes after starting both programs, the gpu will throttle back to 450/1200 (from stock 850/1200). Running any test independently, does not result in any throttling (nor cpu or gpu)

Any insight on this? I had a similar config (i7 2960xm+ 7970m) in my former MSI and despite the temperatures were much higher it did not throttle one bit by using TS. Could there be some sort of protection in this m6600?

    Thank you for any input.

It can cause by not enough power input, because burn in program use up max TDP, there maybe a chance that 240w is not enough. Try some game or 3dmark .
If it doesn't throttle under 3dmark, then it should be fine.

Same setup in my msi did not throttle one bit and I was using a 180w PSU.

In bf3 there is some slight throttling gpu wise.

Not sure, try disable turbo using TS and see if throttle persist?
Also would try newest driver, use windows default high performance power plan, check powerplay option. The only case where someone grab a 7970m on m6600 is on a Chinese forum though I cant access it now.

btw, TS doesn't really help for GPU throttle iirc.

Is it possible to type on the keyboard while moving the pointing stick? It's possible to turn off the 'touchguard' feature for the touchpad but I couldn't find out how to do it for the pointing stick.

Do you use the pointing stick primarily? If not, just disable it entirely with Fn+F5.

It is not a "touchguard", it is a bug in the driver, I gonna need to dig up the solution in one of the pages.

And so i got a new screen yesterday. Again LG panel but no flickering - altho "new" screen (manufacture date according to aida64 is 2010) has either a small crack or a scratch on the right hand side total 4mm in length on visible part of the LCD and extends under the bazel. Either the croatian technicians did it or it was damaged in transport.

Somehow i thing they did it, as keyboard was also not seated properly and the looked like the didnt know what they were doing.

Yeah I use the pointing stick primarily, the old flat black nub on it was very inefficient, so I replaced the one it had with 'classic point' shape and it became so much more easier to control, it's actually quite nice.

You're right, it might not be a touchguard feature. I tried it out in a Windows XP virtual machine and it worked fine for some reason, I was able to type and move around the mouse at the same time.
