That offer is an easy one to miss...I discovered it by accident. Although you do get a discount at the cart, you don't get the actual 50% off automatically until you enter the coupon code.

You can add a lot of goodies for half price.

Something else I was wondering about.

Memory, I ordered mine with only 4gb because I wasn't going to pay Dell prices on 16 or 32gb.

So this is whats coming :

Intel Core i7-2860M Quad Core 2.50GHz 8MB, Dell Mobile Precision M4600/M6600
4.0GB, DDR3-1333 SDRAM, 2 DIMM, Dell Mobile Precision
AMD FirePro M8900 Mobility Pro Graphics with 2GB GDDR5, Dell Mobile Precision M6600
17.3" UltraSharp FHD(1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit with Premium Panel Guarantee

No in one post I read in this thread someone made mention of needing a 27xx 28xx or 29xx processor to use 1333 or more than 16gb

Whats the reason that Dell doesn't offer the 32gb 1333Mhz ? or is that a bottle neck of the chipset ?

If you drop in 32gb of 1333mhz will the system just run it slower or will it loose its mind ?

    Danke

    -Robert

When customizing, look under memory you will see 32 GB of memory for $2,000. Even at half price that cost is steep. You can get it much cheaper at Kingston or Crucial. My configuration is similar to yours (processor wise and graphics card). I bought 16 GB of 1600Mhz ram from Crucial for around $75.

Oh yea, no chance in hell I would pay 2k for 32gb :)

I the 32gb option was only the 1333 vs 1600 I was just wondering why the inability to run 32gb of 1600

I wrote it wrong when I typed up before I was think the 32gb 1333 vs only 16gb 1600

Was wondering if anyone can help me, finished a few upgrades on my system (ram/ssd) and was wondering the best way to go about audio. I understand the integrated cannot handle much in virtualization and I wanted to hook up an external amp or headset that would support 7.1 surround. This is more for me and by no means work related. I occasionally play games or watch movie on the system and wanted to know what other m6600 users are using. I have looked around the net and found a possible solution. A plantronics 780 gaming headset that has 7.1 virtualization built in. I also saw the creative external audio amp that would be able to do thae same as well as work as a splitter for two headphones. If anyone can help I do appreciate it!

For the guys that were talking about the 50% off coupon for the M6600, is there even a noticeable difference between the M6600 and M6700? If not then, then that is an awesome deal.

Not that noticeable, the CPU are somewhat faster and the higher end GPU options are better. There are other small difference, such as the finish on the M6700 having a slightly better look. However, the M6600 is still a very capable system. If you can get one at 50% off, i personally wouldn't hesitate.

The 50% off actually take less off compare to normal discount unless you over config.

It is a very good deal. I bought one back in October and had a lot of trouble with it and decided to return it within the 21 day period. Dell offered to send me a replacement, but I said no.

When I discovered the 50% off coupon, I configured another one even upgrading the processor from 2760QM to a 2860QM and came out several hundred $ cheaper than the one I bought and returned in October.

So I decided to give the M6600 another try. The second one is noticeably a much better build and so far without the hardware and software issues I had with the first one right out of the box.

Also you get an easy 30 day return which I think expires in January. That gives you a chance to thoroughly check it out.

I started upgrading with the basic $999 option. That is where you will see the savings when configuring using the 50% off coupon.

i7-2860QM Processor (upgraded to from 2760QM)
Internal English Backlit Keyboard (optional before, now included)
17.3" Ultrasharp FHD (1920x1080) (optional before, now included)
    Wireless Bluetooth module (upgraded to)
8x DVD+/- Slotload (optional before, now included)
    Webcam/mic (upgraded to)
AMD FirePro M8900 (included...I decided to not to go with Nvidia, even at half price.))
    3 year ProSupport (upgraded to)
    2GB ram...(I purchased 16GB 1600Mhz from Crucial for $75)
Also purchased all three resource DVDs

    total cost: $1,455 + tax of $71.31

Cost of M6600 purchased in October and returned $1993 + tax. And that was with the lessor 2760 QM processor.
