Not only with the premier color utility, unfortunately.

NONE of the original nVidia drivers I tried so far plays 100% correctly with software using video overlay in full screen mode. One striking example is Sony Vegas Pro; when playing back the timeline, one has the ability of going full screen by clicking the External Monitor icon. When no external monitor is present, the system will switch from its windowed UI to the full screen video playback mode... Which simply doesn't work with anything other than Dell's own drivers.

I have no clue why it happens - the Optimus technology might be the culprit here, but hey! it's an nVidia's own invention, so no excuse for nVidia drivers! Anyway - there must be something proprietary in how graphics is handled in the Precision, which only Dell-released drivers handle correctly.

Therefore - even though there have been at least 3 newer driver from nVidia - I'm still using the 296.88 version from Dell's support site.

Aside from the bezel, any blu-ray should be compatible if you plan to do a swap. As for the original unit, i'm not certain.

M6600 originally shipped with Panasonic UJ-232 BD-RE drive. UJ-242, UJ-252 (M6700 ships with), and UJ-262 should be compatible as well.

Noticing what seems to be a lot of drive activity when no applications are open. Looking at the Processes under Task Manager and see that System Idle Process is running a steady 98-99.

    Is that normal?

System Idle Process will always appear to be using all of the CPU power that is otherwise unused. You can think of it just showing you the amount of time that your CPU is spending idle. It is normal.
