The touch screen requires a thicker top panel / bezel too so you'll have to get that. See Bokeh's picture:
    http://www.appstate.edu/~taylorsa1/m6600/IMG_8719.jpg

It's the same one that is used for the IPS screen so you can find the part number in the M6600 IPS DIY conversion thread.

(I don't know if anything else is required to swap in a touchscreen.)

Thanks for the explanation Scott and Aaron44126.

I should not worry myself with the WEI anyway, as after the (loads) of windows updates this morning my WEI changed to:
    7.5
    7.8
    7.2
    7.2
    5.9 (Primary Disk)

I have no idea what happened to that last number. It was always 7.7 before! ;-)

Thanks for the info sir. Can anyone who has a touchscreen M6600/M6700 comment on how it works with Windows 8? Do you feel it is worth the upgrade to the touchscreen?

Thinking of raid 0 2 HDD, the only downside is longer boot time? (I know the risk of raiding and such)

For my video data, I've used a 2-disk RAID 0 in my Precision without any problems (of course backing up is a must).

Windows installed a default MS one that works fine, but I updated it with the latest Bluetooth 375 driver from Dell, and it still works fine. The only things that doesn't work yet in Win 8 is the FP reader (if you have one). Waiting for new drivers for that.

Does anyone know if the new E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator will work with the M6600?

On Dell's website as of November 2012 it is listed as follows:
    Manufacturer Part# : T0J21
    Dell Part# : 331-7947
"Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with USB 3.0 and 240-Watt Power Adapter cord for Dell Precision M4600/ M4700/ M6700 Mobile WorkStations"

It is described as having the following capabilities:
The E-Port Plus Port Replicator with USB 3.0 from Dell™ offers dual digital monitor capabilities along with legacy ports. This docking station includes a latest USB 3.0 technology enabled by Intel in Ivy Bridge. It has replaced the 2 USB 2.0 connectors with the USB 3.0. Plus, the Display Port 1.2 adds the ability to daisy chain displays (4 displays via 1 connector). Also it offers an adaptor complexity reduction. It has non-compromise station designed for enhanced usability at desk. The E-Port Plus Port Replicator has 240-Watt Power Adapter Cord. This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems. It is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell system.

Since the M4600 is listed as working with this port replicator, will the M6600 work? Will USB 3.0 work?

Is anyone aware of any reasons why one would select the older E-Port Plus for a M6600 instead of the newer E-Port Plus Advanced, especially since they are currently listed as the exact same price?

    Older E-Port Plus:
    Manufacturer Part# : R537F
    Dell Part# : 430-3312

    Kind regards to all.

I got the older one to use with our E6530. I have not tried it with the M6600 yet. Ebay has a ton of the older E-port plus from corporate returns. I was able to get a E-port plus and a 6.7 amp power brick for 40.00 delivered. 6.7 amp is good enough for the E6530. As a bonus, my E port plus looked new, and the power brick was still new in the factory wrap.
The gripe about the older one was no HDMI and no dual link DVI and no USB3

I asked the same question in this thread a month or two back, and was told YES it will work. I have the the E-Port Plus without the USB 3.0, and I do not find myself needing the new one. I have only one USB 3.0 device and I just plug it into the USB 3.0 port on the side of the laptop when needed.

I did read that the new dock has some other updates to it other than just USB 3.0 and video port version, it said it was hot-swappable now. I run two Display Port monitors when docked and noticed that if I un-dock and re-dock, I sometimes do not get vidio back on 1 or both monitors. Maybe the new one fixes that with being hot-swappable.

What resolution does the display port provide when using the port replicator?
