Thanks for all that info. I called Samsung's SSD support and their Techs said something similar but sounded very unsure about it. Your response had much more certainty to it.

I thought I just upgraded my 830 SSD for no reason. Thanks!

    Scott,
I have a m6600 (with an LG IPS panel) with the exact problem that you have described: there is a high pitched whine emanating from the upper-center to upper-right area of the panel. The noise is very noticeable and quite vexing. Have you determined any resolutions? Thanks much!

Just curious. Dont you have warranty? Why dont you call Dell and have them fix or replace it? They should come next day and fix it. Dont they have to?

Nothing resolved yet other than it "may" quiet down over time. Likewise, the brighter the screen is set while the system is plugged-in reduces the noise.

The issue seems to be generated near the smaller header on the top-right rear of the LCD panel, which is the voltage regulator circuit feeding the LED backlights. I believe these DC voltage lines (from the interposer card) are dirty and are then amplified by the regulator circuit; thus producing the audible 120-200Hz noise.

If I ever get the time, I will try adding some 10uF-100uF decoupling capacitors to both the interposer card logic output side and the LCD backlight voltage input side. This will at least reduce or mute the noise by filtering the V+ ripple.

Lastly, after testing (6) panels, I was able to find one that was not as bad as the others so you can always go that route if you have the option of exchanging the H/W.

Scott, I am curious. How did you get your nvidia to be GPU#0 in hwinfo? With mine it is GPU#1 and the intel is GPU#0.

Does it make any difference? I did notice some months back my WEI fell from 72 to 6.7 overall, and the main culprit was Graphics and Gaming Grahics which are both at 6.7 now.

With Optimus disabled, the NVIDIA will be the only GPU that you have, the Intel GPU will be completely hidden/disabled. (And if you have the IPS screen, Optimus disabled is the only choice.) Downside is you lose the power savings that Optimus offers.

    Correct -
With the IPS panel, Dell uses the eDP interface to support the 10bit color operation, which does not facilitate the use of the Intel embedded GPU so the nVidia Optimus switching is disabled. Therefore, "GPU#1" now becomes “GPU#0”.

    Hey guys,

I was considering buying and installing the touchscreen for my M6600 to take advantage of Windows 8 (if I go ahead and upgrade), but I had a few questions first.

    1. Does the Dell touchscreen work well with Windows 8? If so, do you think the upgrade is worth it for Windows 8?

    2. I have swapped screens before with no issue, is the process the exact same with a touchscreen, or is it more involved like with the IPS screen?

Thanks in advance for any help given!
