Back to the registry entry change recommended by the Dell tech:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "TaskbarNoNotification"=dword:00000001

My M6600 registry stops at \Polices\ with nothing below it. I checked my XPS 8500 and it shows something similar to the above entry.

Would you mind checking this entry against your registry on your M6600 and see if your registry is similar to the above?

    Thanks

    I don't have anything after HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies.
In Policies there is (Default) REG_SZ (Value not set)

    Ok...thank you!...that is what I have.

Weird Dell would recommend that change. That is encouraging at this point.

    Kallias:

Just try to download that W7 iso image, use key under battery after drivers installed to authenticate.
These kinds of little troubles just burn up your time. Could've had a complete clean normal reimage by now :)

    Kallias,

One more thing: If you don't have FPR, replace 11,12,13 with this driver: Control Vault

Oh and skip automatically authenticating during W7 install.

    I am in the US..Colorado

I dont have a finger print reader.

Ok after several attempts I finally got connected and it is downloading an ISO. As you say it must take a long time to download.

At least I think it is downloading, the download meter is still at starting.

Bet the site very busy and that is why I could not initally get connected.

An aside note: I tried three browsers firefox, chrome, and IE, and finally connected with firefox. For some reason my connecting to the msft.digital.rivercontent.net website disables my wireless connection, until this last time when it finally connected.

While waiting I think I will take a Sunday walk in the woods....get back to the real world and the fall smell of the outdoors for a while....I think I have plenty of time!

Thanks a lot for your time and effort.

(However I must say that information about the registry you checked on did boost my spirits!)
