Not necessary to remove it, just keep it from starting up. Calibration is dependent on brightness setting, also to the display panel capabilities.
Your main goal was trying to stop the brightness from overriding your preference. Elaboration here.

I assume you're still using the factory image and I'm not. Also don't know if you have an Intel/nVidia setup that uses Optimus. I don't experience BSOD's with Optimus off. And which anti-virus is being used - some are known to cause problems.
Here's a couple of things I do right after a reimage on both my setups for troubleshooting:
    Disable Anti-Virus Realtime monitoring.
Event Viewer Errors, these have had a strange side effect of making bsod's go away sometimes:
Fix CAP12 Errors (Microsoft Fix it 50531, KB2328240)
Fix Kernel Processing Power Errors: In C:\Windows\Panther find and rename the file setup.etl to setup.old - Restart system.

That you're now having bsod's at login is disconcerting.

    I figured it out.

You have to go onto the Premier color control panel and set a profile for each application. There are setting for Explorer, Excel etc.
So you setup a profile on each one with the brightness setting included.
Then set it to Load on Startup.
As you switch to different applications the screen brightness will go to whatever setting is in the profile.
    Works fine now.
    Thanks

Awesome. I spend half my time not needing the displays full capabilities, therefore putting the display color to sRGB then right clicking the icon in the tray and exit, unloads it. I don't run at startup because it's just easier to start it when needed. In dark environments reading NBR at full brightness is too much.

Currently using my external data drive with music and steam/origin. Steam/origin is about 460gb and music is 80gb. I want to use the data drive for steam mainly and half my music. Games that I want quick access to that have long load times (shogun 2) will be migrated to the ssd. This was my plan, so I do not have to carry an external drive. Also the idea of multiple ssds is not bad, yet I would not benefit from the cost/space/speed of the system. So what do you guys think is my best options?

Currently I am monitoring the corsair vengeance 16gb ram, 256gb Samsung ssd and wd black 750gb hdd. Looking for them to fall below $300 in total or at least $350 before I purchase. Looking for the best bang for my money in reliability, performance and lifespan! Also would the momentus xt hybrid drives be any good as a data drive?

I am old-school [first "real" HDD was a 3.0GB IDE in 1995 that cost $380) so I do not waste local data space and consider more than 500GB on any single mechanical drive too risky of an investment in regards to securing my data. With that said, Western Digital Black drives are my #1 choice and I have never had one fail yet. The hybrids and their performance boost is not exploited if using them as data drives. Just go SSD at that point.

Until a few weeks ago, I ran a Samsung 830 Series 256GB SSD with a 500GB WD Black secondary drive. I ended up having an extra Crucial M4 256GB SSD and a Samsung PM830 128GB mSATA SSD from another project I was working on so I took out the mechanical WD drive and went 100% SSD with the three stated drives. Now I have more than 600GB of solid state storage and it is spread out so no single failure point will ever mean the end of the world for me. Likewise, I auto-sync with my cloud storage service so important data is also available regardless of the status of the hardware I am using.

    Hi all,
Hope someone can help me this difficulty I have with Catalyst Control panel on my M8900 card (I searched this forum and google, but didn't find anything that helped me).

I have a premier-color IPS screen, but I removed the Dell premier-color app because it was so frustrating trying to use it. I have the August 2012 version of Catalyst control panel installed.

Question: Why don't presets change my settings when I click or double click on a preset? It's really annoying having to change my R,G,B and temperature settings manually every time I change from daylight to a lamp-lit room. Is it some sort of bug, or is there a special technique to try and get CCP to remember my colour settings correctly in each different preset??

    Thanks for any help guys!
