Thanks. Yeah you are right. Somehow I installed it and removed the software :|

Still, how do I install the fingerprint reader driver ?

EDIT: Never mind. Its in the Dell Data Protection package. Hmm I never expected that. :D

I just purchased a refurbished m6600. The bios is A04. Does this need to be updated? I believe I have read somewhere in this thread about updating the bios. If so, where do I obtain the necessary info?

    Thanks,

    Hi.
Call to dell and ask about:

UltraSharp™ because these panels aren't ultrasharp

    and

Wide View Anti-Glare because they don't are

Ask for a replacement to a panel with part# VCV1F (LG 173WF1). It's a replacement without any cost.

Get up to 5 posts to enable messaging and PM him, which is the best way.

    Here are my findings:

Most desirable to me, but no longer offered direct from Dell:
    Dell P/N X919N (AU Optronics B173HW01 v.4 – glossy finish)
    90% color gamut
    600:1 contrast ratio
    300+ cd/m2 brightness
    70/70 x 60/60 viewing angles (degrees R/R x L/L)
    Ref: B173HW01 V.4

Best anti-glare (matte) display offered for the M6600 - if you're lucky:
    Dell P/N H8D3K (AU Optronics B173AUO B173HW01 v.5 – matte finish)
    72% color gamut
    400:1 contrast ratio
    300 cd/m2 brightness
    70/70 x 60/60 viewing angles
    Ref: B173HW01 V5 final functional spec HW-0A

Most common other than the CMO:
    Dell P/N VCV1F (LG/PHILLIPS LP173WF1 (TL) (B3) – matte finish)
    72% color gamut
    500:1 contrast ratio
    200 cd/m2 brightness (too low)
    40/40 x 10/30 viewing angles (terrible)
    Ref: http://www.yslcd.com.tw/docs/product/LP173WF1-TLC1.pdf

Do not even get me started on the Chei Mei Optronics (CMO) panels - they are junk.

Yes, it is recommended to get it up to A07. Just go HERE, download the file in your browser to your desktop, and run the .exe. Make sure your wall adapter is plugged in to the laptop the entire time and the less programs running, the better.

It is really a personal preference since the performance differences between the memory is still under 10%. If you are buying memory anyway, go ahead and look for the low CL ratings and not so much the brand names since 90% off all memory comes from three sources in Asia.

I really like the G.Skill 1600MHz CL9 memory for the M6600. I just works, does not run hot, and has the lifetime warranty. If you happen to find CL6 or CL7 1333MHz memory go that route.

Does anyone own, or have experience with, the Nvidia 5010M card with their M6600?

I am about to buy an M6600 with the 4000M. However, using Avid, Autodesk, Matlab, and even just some parts of CS5.5 such as Premiere Pro might make the 5010M worth it. On the other hand, how does the same Dell fan handle the extra heat? Does the ECC memory slow down more common apps and functions? Could the 4000M last longer without need for service/replacement? Could the 4 GB of memory in the 5010M help future proof the M6600 for use with upcoming apps that demand more than the 2 GB in the 4000M? Whatever software you run, are 4000M users quite happy with their performance?

Any comments on how happy or unhappy users are with the 4000M or the 5010M would be greatly appreciated....
