    Contactless Smart Card Reader

The card reader on the Dell Precision™ M6600 requires the user to simply wave their identification card over the sensor. This capability is implemented using a tiny Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag in the card. The RFID tag is essentially a microchip combined with an antenna. Contactless smart cards provide the user with greater convenience by speeding the authentication processes.

I ordered on the U.S. site and had it shipped to the U.S. Called the U.S. but I'm not in the U.S.

I have the regular warranty but I've been thinking about pro support. Is it worth it? Would it work just fine in the UK? I'm moving over there in a few weeks.

Edit: When I go to Renew/Upgrade Warranty it says:

    Huh?

Yipes and there I was just thinking you ran your finger over it. I have read that you have to call up Dell security manager but I have got nothing like this unless I have uninstalled it when I removed the bloatware. It wasn't in the trend security package was it. I cannot find anything to enrol it. I even tried to download and install ControlPoint Secutiry Manager from Dell drivers site but when I installed it it said I already had a newer one installed. Damned if I can find it!!!:(

    Another question,

Is there a big difference in battery lifetime between the 3000M, 4000M and M8900 configurations? I realise that no optimus with the ATI card will make a difference, but how much? And how much a difference between the 3000M's with it's 75w TDP and 100w TDP of the 4000M?

I'm talking about mostly heavy browsing and media related stuff. For work it will almost always be plugged in.

The M8900 on Power Saving mode and configurations will only yield you around 2 Hours maximum on the standard 9-Cell Battery.

cool thanks. I guess the Quadro is the way to go then.

I'm buying mine this afternoon. The outlet is all out of M6600's, so i guess i'll be hitting up ebay.

The USB 3 ports need the driver to be installed. Try the ports on the left side.

You should also try re-seating the RAM if you are comfortable with taking off the back cover.

The Nvidia cards likely operate at a 10:1 power ratio like the last generation did. So the 75 watt card will only use 7.5 watts in low power mode. The 100 watt will use 10 watts.

With Optimus enabled, the cards will shut down and the GPU on the Intel processor only uses a couple of watts. With Optimus, the whole machine will only use 10-15 watts if you are careful about what is running.

For just browsing and media stuff, if u refer to stream music, I got more than or at least double battery life when switching from a M8900 to 3000M.

Btw, I have my 3000M for sale, listed on NBR Market Place now if you happened to get one w/ M8900 from eBay. And if u get yours from there, make sure u check the service tag with Dell to make sure it is good, not stolen like my from eBay. That's how I ended up with an extra 3000M now.
