I have tested the following in the M6600 -

BEST non-IPS panel in my opinion, but not available when ordering the M6600:
    Dell P/N X919N (AU Optronics B173HW01 v.4 – glossy finish)
    90% color gamut
    600:1 contrast ratio
    300+ cd/m2 brightness
    70/70 x 60/60 viewing angles (degrees)
    Ref: B173HW01 V.4

Best anti-glare (matte) display that is offered with the M6600 if you're lucky:
    Dell P/N H8D3K (AU Optronics B173AUO B173HW01 v.5 – matte finish)
    72% color gamut
    400:1 contrast ratio
    300 cd/m2 brightness
    70/70 x 60/60 viewing angles (degrees)
    Ref: B173HW01 V5 final functional spec HW-0A

Not the best, but still better than the CMO:
    Dell P/N VCV1F (LG/PHILLIPS LP173WF1 (TL) (B3) – matte finish)
    72% color gamut
    500:1 contrast ratio
200 cd/m2 brightness (much too low!)
    40/40 x 10/30 viewing angles (degrees....terrible!)
    Ref: http://www.yslcd.com.tw/docs/product/LP173WF1-TLC1.pdf

Do not even get me started on the Chei Mei Optronics (CMO) panels as they are junk!

The LG LP173WF2 is a nice panel, but I have not been able to source the correct 50-pin system cable for it so I cannot test it with the M6600.

    Scott-

I have been out with the Holidays. I know Scott has answered this. I really concurred with using paste having just recently take apart my M6600 to replace the GPU and force to re-paste my CPU. I have been using Arctic Silver 5 for many years and so far, it has been working out very well for me. In fact, I used my AS5 from 3 years ago and it still work wonders.

A while back, someone posted a pretty reputable eBay seller who are selling Brand NEW M6600 for 1,299.99 (eBay seller - johny641). I happened to bought an opened box M6600 from the same seller for a little cheaper than that and I just received confirmation from Dell that my Service Tag is considered "stolen" - According to Dell's investigation (took 1+ weeks), my laptop was purchased with a stolen credit card. So, Dell is telling me to return to eBay seller or I can keep the system but Dell will not service my laptop. Dell sent the email to me on Friday, 11/25. It is kinda weird for me too as I was working with Dell Fraud Team (DFT) before the holiday since the service tag was flagged, a member in the DFT told me that the machine wasn't stolen and that all I need was the previous owner information to do the warranty transfer!!?? Now, Dell's level 2 customer service told me that the DFT has officially tagged my service tage as "stolen".

Anyway, I will try to find out more information and if I can find the link or post in this thread, I will update this. I thought since it is the same seller, those who bought the "good" deal might want to double check their service tag with Dell to confirm before eBay's Buyer Protection coverage end in 45 days. What a mess... Since I only read the email yesterday, I contacted the eBay seller and awaiting tomorrow to see what they said, the eBay seller (johny641) is reputable and has 98.8% positive ratings with ~33,000 review. And from working with them previously, they are responsive and reasonable. I suspect they probably didn't know it was "stolen" too.

Dell told me that I can keep the system since I "legally" purchased it thru eBay even when they considered it stolen but I will not get any services??!! My question is should I keep the system since it is "stolen"? I thought it is illegal to own a "stolen" item in the USA? I have talked to eBay and was told that I will be fully covered under their eBay Buyer protection (thank god!) if the seller refused to work with me.

Can anyone who is familiar with Dell take a look into my case? I am also scouting eBay for a replacement. What a disappointment after replacing my GPU and are so happy with the M6600.

Great to see that the i7-xx60's are becoming available- think I'll be putting in an order shortly!
I'll be using it mostly for CAD type apps (Autodesk Inventor and Navisworks mainly, very large models), can anyone tell me if they're more sensitive to RAM bandwidth or latency? Trying to decide what (aftermarket) RAM to get... Kingston HyperX seems popular... any recommendations?

P.S. Thanks for all the great contributions here guys - reading through this thread has given me the confidence to go with a Dell (over a HP) and I'm sure has saved me hours of messing around fixing the various issues covered here. Maybe even as many hours as I've spend browsing the thread :D

A lot of the techs at work are switching to the Zalman compound that comes with the applicator brush. For the last year or so they used the stuff Dell sends in little syringes.

I have used this on the M6600 and it is cheaper than that Kingston HyperX stuff... M6600 recognize it immediately with no modification in the BIOS.

    Newegg.com - ADATA XPG Gaming Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model AXDS1600GC4G9-2

It has slight lower power consumption too at 1.3v.

I later switched to this DDR3 1333 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220476 as I can get 2x4gb (8GB) for $20 total after rebate and combine with my original 4GB DDR3 1333 to make 12GB. For what I do, the 1333 vs 1600 has no real world impact. So, I went with the cheapest! :) This Patriot 1333 works very well for me too.
