As I browse for a potential replacement on my "stolen" M6600, I came across a lot of M6600 with - "Integrated webcam with single digital microphone" on eBay. My question is can I upgrade that to the "light sensitive webcam and noise cancelling digital array mic" easily? How difficult to get all the needed parts? I thought that the M6600 is fairly new and I don't even see that single digital mic on Dell's M6600 configuration site.

Also, another eBay seller was telling me that his M6600 is most likely without a webcam and mic?? Is that a special corporate ordered M6600 for sensitive program??

    Thanks in advance!

    It does say Federal M6600, not a Configure-to-order M6600.

And I think it would be really hard to upgrade the webcam and the array mic, as the bezel would be different and would require you to get the different bezel as well.

Basically, it is this for USA buyers:

    WTPWR -- Module,Liquid Crystal Display,17.3FHD,White Light Emitted Diode,Legend,M6600...

    = 320-1925 on the invoice/receipt
= the AUO B173HW01 V5 or the LG LP173WF1 (in new M6600 systems)
= either of the above *OR* the unacceptable CMO panel (in Dell Outlet M6600 systems)

Unfortunately, if your system is not USA-new or either new/used outside the USA, you are taking a gamble with the panel received and should check it with HWiNFO64 as soon as the system is received (although the difference in the panels is pretty obvious just looking at them).

    Thanks!

In my opinion, the M6600 is very nice as everything is upgradeable and overall very solid. I especially like the new keyboard layout (location of Home, End and Insert for keys combination use) but I know a lot of users don't like it. The user support base is big and great in this forum. I do felt that Dell make the "taking apart process" for the M6600 a little more complicate than it should for a system that was suppose to be very user serviceable. Having had some previous experience with other laptop over the years, I really thought the process can be simplify and removing some of the ribbons/connectors could be easier as the available space to work-in is very narrow in many instances (I do have big hand/fingers). This is by no way complaining and it is still very serviceable. For example, I would prefer you don't have to remove the CPU heat-sink when all you need is to replace the GPU; now, that's complaining! :)

Anyway, good luck in your process. Like Scott said, take your time and you will be fine.

One tip: For removing the Keyboard Trim, you don't really need a plastic scribe tool. Just use your "pinky" or little finger and starts prying between the "Delete" key and "Calc" key. Slowly pull all the top portion and then, the left and right side; then, work on the lower portion. Hope this helps!

Not sure which one that is since I don't have it... This would be a question for Bokeh since he has one.

    Thanks...

Maybe they use the AU panels with the touch screen since they are glossy

    Hey guys,

quick question. I want to buy a docking station for my M6600. Does it need to be the 210w E-Port Plus, or can i get away with the 130w E-Port Simple replicator (which i think is a PRO3x?)?
