So here we are, after 3 attempted LCD Changes, 2 successful LCD changes (Chi Mei to LP173WF1 AND LP173WF1 to LP173WF1), still the same problem (the new LG Philips LP173WF1 is still flashing/flickering during low backlight conditions) AND, now, also a shaky LCD frame!

    Some details [optional reading]:
-The first LCD change attempt was a swap of a Chi Mei for another Chi Mei, which I refused and prevented, since I knew about Dell-Mano_G's statement.

-The second LCD change attempt was successful, since my Chi Mei was changed for an LG Philips LP173WF1. At first this seemed good: great colors and great all, but after some use, I experienced flickering, as described by Athar and me.
I followed Bokeh suggestions (very smart suggestions here), to help diagnose and potentially solve the issue.
In short, I updated the GFX drivers (Nvidia+Intel to latest), I switched the refresh rate to 40Hz and 60Hz and I enabled/disabled Optimus through the BIOS, unfortunately the flickering on low backlight levels remained the same, so I lamented the issue with DeLL Italy and today (26/Oct/2011)...

    - DeLL attempted the third LCD change. BUT they changed my LG Philips LP173WF1 with another...LG Philips LP173WF1!

    Same make, same model.

I didn't oppose the LCD change (like I did with the 1st Chi Mei swap), since this time I wasn't sure about the LCD swap effect (no "official" Dell-Mano_G statements).

    [interesting reading]
After the swap, I powered up the M6600, and checked with the technician if the issue was solved.
We've put the backlight on the lowest setting and the flickering became evident. The technician saw it, confirmed it and argued something about an "ambient light sensor" (which, after a superficial search, seems non-existant on the M6600 series).

Now I have a flickering LCD AND a shaky plastic LCD Frame, which I didn't ask for...

    ...suggestions anyone?
[Of course I'm gonna call Dell again...]

For the moment, I have an AUO panel, working just fine! (Until now, I don't see any issue with it).

Maybe you can ask to Dell to change yours with it (AUO model seems to be the only one with no issues, but some peoples said that this panel is a little more bad than the LG, for the colors).

I'm not sure if the touchscreen always uses the same panel but both of mine are AUO.

I have also had just about enough with dell service & their LCD's. In the past 8 months I have returned 4 vostro 3750's & 2 m6600's for bad LCD's. All had vertical lines about every 1/16th of an inch. I am not sure how anyone looking at the screen could have missed it which makes me wonder if anyone even turns these things on before they ship.

A couple of weeks ago my primary m6600 touch screen started acting up, registering touches when none were occurring. So I shipped it to Dell Service and a little over a week later i received it back. Not only did the touch screen not work at all, but the screen bezel was loose and separated from the screen by about 1/4 of an inch along the bottom edge. On top of that there were scratches and tool marks all over the machine. It looked like it was repaired on a sandpaper covered table and pried open with a screwdriver. Needless to say the machine is back at Dell and I am crossing my fingers.

This Optimus/Quadro think will never stop to amaze me. I have noticed increased fan activity for no apparent reason recently, and indeed - when I opened the GPU monitor, it shows GPU utilization cycling between some 11 and up to 27%.

I have no slightest idea what can be causing this - do you?

PS. Looking at the attached grab you can see the card is in P12 state (idling), which makes it even more bizarre. And the temperature is around 60C, while usually it's idling at some 45-50C.

Dell service has been out twice now and should be here again today.
First try was a new AUO Panel which had some issue according to the tech. He turned it on went into bios and said this panel is bad turned it off put the old LG panel back on and left.

Next day another tech came replaced the LG panel with another LG panel could not get the bottom of the bezel to stay attached left, saying they would send yet another panel :)

I have order another outlet M6600 with a touchscreen it gets here today.
I hope that it does not have any problems.

How well does the touch screen work compared to a smart phone?

I tried one of the Dell ST 21" LCDs with touch and it used a different type of touch sensing that was not as good as a smart phone.

My touchscreen did the same thing. I ran the calibration in the N-Trig software and it fixed it.

I am very interested in your thoughts on the touch screen you are getting cuz I am on the fence between the touch or the ips w external wacom I work in architecture and do quite a bit of renderings and pshop work so any insight from anyone here would be great

What kind of panel did your touch come with and how responsive do you find it I have heard it is at least as good as an i phone but what are your thoughts and are you satisfied with the interface

This experience is quite alarming and while I dont doubt the validity I am hoping this is not a common occurrence from dell

Have you received your touchscreen back yet and did dell fix your issues also were the 2 m6600s you sent back for lcd probs the touch screen version

Just checked my display, because I've also got the LP173WF1. My one is flickering too on the two lowest brightness levels. However I think I can live with that. I won't use them and aside from this the display is really great.

Anybody in here who got an non-flickering LP173WF1? I don't think it exists.

I received the touchscreen system and it is a AUO panel with no flickering.
So I am sending back the first system that flickers and planning on keeping the system with the touchscreen.

Are touchscreen system suppose to come with a pen?
If not where does one purchase one?

Touchscreen did not work well, until I ran n-trig calibration. Now it works ok with finger, probably better with a pen.
