My M6600 came in today which I ordered on October 4th. Bit anxious about which display it would have since I live in Europe. Had a quick look at the packing slip on the box and read: 230-11984 LCD,17.3FHD,WLED,CMO
Then booted the device and installed HWinfo which said Monitor: AU Optronics B173HW01 V5

I think that CMO is in fact CMOS, but I'm not sure (This is not a way to say ChiMei^^)

Yes, how this works indeed. I updated my bios but didn't see any new options.

While all the specs for both my m6600's indicated anti-glare both are glossy. Even asked my sales rep if they were anti-glare and he told me yes.

    Dell Item number:320-1923 - 17.3 US FHD(1920x1080)WV AG LED-blit MTouch w/Stylus,Prem Panel Guar,Dell Mobile Precision M6600

However the screens look great IMO so I kept them.

New keys is probably new cards and displays. 5010M and whatever else Dell has up its sleeve. IPS is also soon.

On the touch screen it should be labeled "Barely Anti Glare". Yes, it is has less glare than the Alienware glass screens, but not much.

Is the Chi-Mei ordeal still going on and is it only restricted to European orders? I am getting a warranty exchange on my current M6600 for another and I do hope it doesn't end up a Chi-Mei!!! (I have an AUO on this one).

Actually this is not a Dell limitation but an Intel Chipset one. All mobile dual core Intel Sandy Bridges can't POST with more than two RAM modules occupying the motherboard. In other words, they can only TAKE two RAM modules as a whole. That being said, the 2720QM has Turbo Boost, which in dual core applications will self-overclock itself to 2.7 GHZ like the 2620M anyways, so I see no point on why you want to give up the fight for a quad core. Then again, you are coming from a dual core Core 2 CPU, in which case Dell is probably just going with the Dual to Dual philosophy.

I have A03 BIOS. I had only one BSOD in 2 months, so I would call it stable.

If I make this update to A06, and it turns bad can I revert back to A03? I know it should not turn bad, but there are always those few horror stories.

You won't get any rest from those unless you upgrade the firmware on your SSD. I also have OCZ Vertex 3 and was getting some BSOD's and system freezes until I did just that. My firmware is currently 2.13, you can check yours by going into the properties of the HDD in Device Manager, Details tab and choosing 'Hardware Ids' from the drop-down menu. The string will tell you what firmware you're on - I'm guessing you're on 2.06.

I thought these were the abbrevations:
    AU Optronics (AUO)
    Chi Lin Technology (CLT)
    Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO)
    LG Display IPS (LGD)
    Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT)

    Of course, you are right!
CMOS comes from: Complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor. It has nothing to do with LCD panels.

Hello Mr. Mano and thanks very much for the bios update, but nobody was still able to cope with my ChiMei Hardware problem :(

Am I the last stupid with a grey-pixeled ChiMei LCD

My wives' XPS 15 L501x WUXGA LCD shines in comparison!
