I am looking for a BIG (at least) 750GB Hard drive for my M6600. Any recommendations? Mainly want to use it as a storage and for non-speed relevant programs.

    Thx.

I would recommend Seagate Momentus 5400.7 750GB, SATA II (ST9750423AS) hard drive which is much quieter than a 7200rpm drive. No vibrations, nearly no noise but cool and not that bad speaking of data transfer rate.

If I order with RAID 1 can I switch and make it RAID 0 in the bios

And is Raid possible with 3 drives that are not equal aka 2x 512 ssd in raid 0 plus 128 mini card would I loose raid in that setup and are there really issues with raid using inequal drives aka 512 + 750 + 128 i have heard you can only use the lowest of the 3 in this case 128 is that right

This is a bit off topic but I was also wondering if the comp comes with lo jack or any other anti theft protection

It is my understanding that the acc damage prot or any warranty for that matter does not cover theft and I know my old DELL came with a loc jac disc So I am hoping this will have something in case of theft

Yes both will fit. From what I've read on performance I'd go with WD Scorpio Blue: 2 x 1TB RAID 0 will give decent/good performance and 2TB mobile storage.

I'm still waiting for 1TB 7200rpm (hopefully 32MB cache) for video editing, etc.

We ordered a second M6600 and just received it today. Our first one came with a ChiMei display, and the second one came with an LG. The difference is night and day. I'll be sending a PM to Dell-Mano_G soon to get the screen on my first one replaced. Thanks to everyone here on the forum for helping me out with this.

Could you take a photo of the two machines next to each other, so that the display differences can be seen? Would be great.

Seems kinda pointless since the Chi Mei panel has been pulled from M6600 production and Dell is going out of their way to help people have them replaced. Comparing AUO to LG or to the upcoming IPS panel would make more sense since people will actually be able to get those panels in the future.

Unless you think a Chi Mei equipped machine will be so rare in the future that collectors will seek them out.
