Unless HP has gone to a new IPS panel for the upcoming 8740w refresh, then it won't be the same IPS panel as in the 8740w... because the 8740w Dreamcolor is 16:10. Not saying it's not possible that there is an IPS panel for the M6600, just that there's no way it can be the same panel (unless the M6600 is designed to take both 16:10 and 16:9 panels which would be a little odd).

    Doesn't the jump to 17.3" imply 16:9?

Well yes, you're both right. If it's coming, it's a must be a new panel, as the HP ones are 16:10.

    Further clarification.

8740w offers 16:10 Dreamcolor. But the 8760w is going to be 16:9, so HP will need a different DC panel if they wish to continue their DC offerings. As such, Dell could also use this hypothetical panel in the M6600.

8540w offers 16:9 Dreamcolor. The 8560w will certainly also be 16:9, so no update on the screen required. This screen could then also be used by Dell for their M4600.

In any case, I hope Dell offers some form of IPS. Now that I've experienced Dreamcolor, there is no going back, and I don't even do color sensitive work. I hope IPS is much more common (and cheaper) when I am ready to upgrade 2-3yrs from now.

    Sounds very plausible.

    That's what I thought when I bought a Flexview 3+ years ago.

lol I thought the exact opposite was happening with IPS...I heard Dream Color 2 bought after costs almost 1 grand? Even like midrange Thinkpads used to offer IPS screens..

Over two grand: 2423.45 from HP

The after market Thinkpad SXGA+ Flexview panels are 980 if you order them from IBM, less than half if you can find them elsewhere.

Don't crush my dreams. But really, I think the problem with IBM was that there was no competition for IPS, so once they were losing market share to cheaper laptops, what incentive did they have to keep IPS around? The market spoke and said they did not care to pay for the premium screen. But now that we've had the race to the bottom, I'm hoping Dell, HP and Lenovo can make a nice profit by offering a few IPS options.

Am I seeing this right? Have they put the Pg/Up Pg/Dn keys above the arrows? Great!
