Hi Everyone, this is my first post.

Ordered the following M6600 for myself on 01 June & today the online order tracking website showed the EDD of 18 July 2011.

    Config:
    2720QM
1920x1080 Anti-glare LED, Touchscreen with Stylus Pen
Fingerprint Reader & Contactless Smartcard Reader
    FHD (2MP) Webcam
    4GB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3
    128GB Full Minicard Mobility SSD
    250GB 7200RPM SATA HDD (x2)
    9-cell (87Wh) 3 Year Warranty Primary Battery
    AMD FirePro M8900
    Ultimate-N 6300 Wireless
    Dell 375 Bluetooth
    Internal Backlit Keyboard
    3Year ProSupport with Complete Cover

Got a good deal of INR 140,000 (approx US$ 3111.11 considering 1US$ = INR 45) but the EDD is quite far.

It is always better to spend $850 for 2920xm rather than 2820qm. Only "always", not definitely, because that depends on the motherboard bios option.

In m4600/W520/8560w, buying 2920xm is a waste. In Clevo/Alienware, 2920xm is a wise choice. New processor will not overtake 2920xm in 1 or 2 year except for the new extreme cpu.

2920xm can be easily overclocked to 4.5Ghz, non-extreme mobile cpu can't achieve that in next 2 years. However m4600/w520/8560w have been bios locked for overclocking and no software can overwrite that, except for bios hack. Clevo and "special edition" Alienware can do freely to their extreme CPU.

Ouch... didn't realize that! This is going to be my first Precision, and I was assuming the BIOS allows for unleashing the potential of Extreme CPUs.

If this is not possible, I modify my standpoint - but only slightly; while the 2929XM might indeed be an overkill (considering the price difference), the 2820QM still remains the sweet spot for me. Not so much for its speed advantage over the 2720, but for the 8MB cache (can really make a difference at HD video processing speed).

I ordered the M4600 on 5/12 with a delivery date of 6/15. The delivery date was just delayed to 6/24. I called to determine why the date was changed and found out that there was a problem with one of the parts (a driver for the web cam). The solution was to change that part (not sure how that was done) and have the representative resubmit the order with an expedite on it. So, now the new delivery date is 6/28.

Not knowing the reason for cancellation, I called my rep today but she has not returned my call. Finally reached another rep and was told that there is a conflict in my configuration. Namely, the PremierColor IPS RGB LCD is not available with the AMD FirePro M5950 video card. After reading all the posts realated to the Precision m4600, I thought that the opposite was true. I thought that type of display was only available with the AMD card.
I tried to configure a new system, and right now the only video card that is available with the IPS panel is the NVIDIA Quadro 2000M. Unfortunalty I cannot afford to pay $450 more this system.
Has anything similar happened to any of you. I still hope it is a mistake on Dell's side and my original configuration will become available.

Same happened to me. I ordered the first day it came out, then 2 weeks ago got a cancelled email, then recieved a delay email. Finally, it was cancelled.

I am thinking that the AMD GPU cannot display 10-bit color, and Dell is just deciding to gouge.

Whatever the reason, I was able to call up and complain and was given a $300 discount on new config + free NBD shipping. So the 2000M was only $150 after discount.

I am going to play with the M4600 for a bit but believe me - if it isn't up to par I'm gonna go with the 8560w. The new HP is pretty nicely designed IMO and is cheaper:)

Strange that the 8650w pre-config comes with the 5950 and 10-bit DC2 display.

Has anyone actually gotten or physically seen one of those pre-configs with the DC2? With the 5950 or even the Quattros??

    Don't know.

BUT a lot of e-tailers have quite a few on order for that exact config and dates are set for 6/28.

Who knows. Maybe they will ship like that, maybe they won't. For me, the IPS is way more important than the GPU.
