    I just received my m4800; i7 4800MQ, 8gb, 1080p screen.

Has anybody else been really disappointed with the graphics performance with the FirePro M5100? It's only about 10% faster than the FireGL V5725 in my Elitebook 8730w; with eight times the VRAM and five years I was really expecting more.

Keyboard didn't arrive, first I asked them to send the keyboard to me so I can replace it myself, they agreed, then they told me they're sending out a technician to replace it but because I wasn't in I had to tell them not to bother and just send me the keyboard instead, now I'm waiting for them to get back to me.

If they had listened to me in the first place I would have gotten it a week ago and I would have been able to see if it fixed the problem, maybe Dell support isn't as good as I think.

Thank you very much for the fast answer. It does not seem to be good support at all :). Well, I still hope that there is a fix for this problem and I do not have to change a part of hardware...but as it seems it is a very rare flaw, as nobody else did mention it.
    Good luck and thanks again.

Power Manager has options to cover these cases. If you don't mind being on AC 24/7, there's a setting that will limit the number of times the laptop starts a battery charge. You run a risk of undocking and already being at 60% charge, but the battery will last much longer.

You don't need to forcibly discharge the battery unless you want to. Recent generation Li-Ion and Li-Po cells don't need it for recalibration, they are "smart" batteries that manage their own charge, not like the "dumb" cells in a cell phone.

    Performance in what benchmark ?

Also, was it active, or was "Enduro" just running the onboard Intel ?

Nice! Is it possible to put that whole combo into the docking station or do you have to detach it first? How securely is the slice connected to the laptop? Do you see any danger that it might detach while you lift up the laptop and carry it around?

Which HSDPA module do you have in there? Did they sell you the DW5570 (aka Sierra Wireless MC8805) as well? It is not supported under Linux, get a Sierra Wireless MC7710 instead, which works fine out of the box.

How did you configure the smartcard and the RFID readers?
I got none of the three (smartcard-, RFID- & fingerprint reader) working yet.

I'm running Debian/Ubuntu on mine and I'm not seeing this keystroke doubling issue. Maybe you really need to replace the keyboard.
Have you checked if the delay until the autorepeat is too short for you?
How often do you have the problem?

    Cheers
    Mike

    Neuffer,
Indeed, I have the Sierra Wireless MC8805 (It is unclear to me why they always have to rename things...how stupid, and it is really annoying, that they (Sierra) state, the module has already Linux support, but reference to Dell for problem solving :))...). I still hope that I can get it working in the end. Right now, the module has no high priority...but of course, it should work - at least in some months. (I read the related posts - where you also wrote some suggestions and infos about your kernel configuration [ubuntu] Dell Wireless 5570 HSPA (notebook Dell E7240) on Ubuntu 12.04. Btw, the performance - I have the A07 Bios installed - is not crippled at all. But maybe, this is a special ubuntu flaw. I compiled the kernel myself and did all kernel configuration myself Right now, I am only running kernel 3.13.9, and maybe the problem of performance comes with the newer 3.14 kernel series and some adjustments in the configuration.

The smartcard reader should work with the new kernel (3.14 at least), there were several threads, solving this problem and stating that with new kernel the "almost available support" (if you look at the kernel messages) should work now. To date, I could not check it, since the necessary nvidia-drivers are not stable for the newer kernel 3.14.1/2. :-( But of course, this is a problem related to gentoo. I will write, if I was finally able to install the new kernel. At the moment this is not very helpful :-(...but I will keep you informed...if it works.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also deactivated the autorepeat. The problem is always there, but occurs in average every ~100 keyboard hits. Nevertheless, this is annoying. Some guys posted that it would be possible it is a problem of my typing style (someone else also reported this problem). However, in the past years I have used several different keyboards and never had the problem...
    Yours,
    Alex

For me that had top priority. I need to be able to react quickly when I'm on standby.
With what power supply did you test?
180W? 240W? -- Those will not trigger it.
    130W? 90W? -- These will.

It is not a Linux kernel issue. The BIOS puts the CPU into a throttling mode, clocking it down and most likely switching off at least parts of the cache.

Can you give me some links?
What I found almost exclusively references the smart card reader that does not connected behind the "ID 0a5c:5802 Broadcom Corp. BCM5880 Secure Applications Processor with fingerprint touch sensor"

    So far I've tested against 3.13.x, I didn't compile 3.14.x yet.
Why do you think this is a Gentoo problem?

You could try some other OS with a live-dvd. For a test I guest the Windows install dvd should be enough....

    Cheers
    Mike
