I see on the spec sheet that there is an "Extended battery slice". Does anyone know the difference with the standard battery?

The extended battery slice is a completely separate, second battery that clips onto the bottom of the machine. I don't like it, it changes the resting angle a bit and doesn't go to the full corners of the machine, so my laptop gets "tippy" to the left/right with a slice attached. On the other hand, it does nearly double battery capacity.

I sent mine back for refund.

Did you send back to the whole unit or just the battery :D?

Just the battery, my M4800 was a swap from a E6540, so the refund would suck. I may yet sell it on and get an M6800, though.

    Thanks for the reply!

Could anyone maybe comment on the difference in battery life of the M3800 and the M4800?

I need a relative powerful laptop which still has good battery and good cooling. I thought the M3800 has good battery life but as it seems I do not think it is that much better as the M4800.

M3800 and M4800 have nearly the same battery life, if you use the 9 cell battery with both. If you take the 6 cell battery, performance is worse. If you take both with the QHD screen, that disables Optimus on the M4800, but the M3800 keeps Optimus, so it's suddenly nearly 2:1 in favor of the M3800.

So it really depends on which options you choose, but the M4800 almost never beats the M3800 in battery life. They're often close, though.

    Hey again,
I took a second look at the ‘kink’… and I believe it’s inevitable by construction.
If you look inside the display-latch holes, they and the outer shell seem to be affixed together. The outer shell is really a thin sheet of metal, therefore naturally flexible. If it’s held in place at some points by stronger force than at other points, it will bend just a little. (I’m not an engineer, though, unlike some other people in this forum…)
I reckon a replacement unit would have the same kink at the same spot. Hope that helps your OCD. ;-)

Only if the screws are over tightened and/or the case is poorly designed.

My unit does not look like the picture.

I am an engineer by the way. :)

    Hi Friends,
I would like to migrate (clone) from my 500GB hybrid drive to 256GB Crucial M550 using Acronis True Image.
OS is win 8 Pro, just quick question does this software clones HDD to SSD without any issue and do i need to change the Bios setting before putting the SSD?
    Thanks.

As for the AUO FHD screen, I discern a fine vertical pattern in white and light areas. It is visible even from ‘normal’ distance; though people’s vision and sensitivity to patters may differ, I assume.

It looks as if there were a microscopically wider gap after every other pixel column, since the apparent superfine vertical lines are two pixels apart. Interestingly, if I inspect the panel through a looking glass, I cannot see the irregularity.

Anyone with the AUO B156HW02 LCD having similar experience? Just asking out of curiosity.
