I dumped the firmware and edited it. It's not trivial, but I've done it since back to Nvidia TNT2 days.

Oh, not gonna bother with it, just gonna wait for a K2100M or FirePro M5100 then.

The double tapping D key I mentioned earlier? It's a bit worse than I thought, it's not just D key that's double tapping, other keys does it too, maybe like every 5 presses or so it double taps, annoying, I can't be the only one who's getting this issue. I've updated the BIOS to A07 and that didn't help.

I think it's the keyboard itself, I don't get the issue when I attach a USB keyboard.

    hi everyone,

I am thinking of buying M4800 but I was wondering if anybody has bought manufacturer refurbished one from ebay? Previously I have got dell xps15z from there and it also was manufacturer refurbished, and unfortunately I haven't got the best experience. I am an architecuture student, I do many renders in 3ds max. Have any of you guys render on it a lot and if so, what are the temperatures of CPU/GPU/ motherboard? My current laptop (sony) reaches up to 179.60ºF, which I beleive is ok for heavy rendering.

    Kind Regards,

that is a shame. is that the unit from the dell uk outlet? do the outlet machines come with the same return policy? i think my keyboard is *ok so far. still not had time to test it fully. very impressed with the build overall. much higher quality than i expected.

well was just admiring the build lines as i booted up in daylight....and noticed this kink along the bottom just above the lid clasp. what do others think worth returning and getting another unit for? there isn't any 'play' when i press it with my finger

    Yeah, got it from outlet.

I think they have the same return policy, I'll see if I can remove the keyboard and reconnect it, see if that helps, if it doesn't then I'll contact Dell and see what can be done.

After applying big windows update yesterday, colors on the built-in monitor look very pale and greyish. Colors on external monitor are ok.

Anybody else experiencing this? Should I reinstall drivers?

Tried using windows display calibration utility, but nothing changed.

    EDIT:
Uninstalled cumulative update kb2919355 and the laptop monitor is showing normal colors again. Unfortunately all future ms win 8 updates will depend on this kb2919355, so not sure how to avoid installing it..

It’s AU Optronics (AUO for short) B156HW02 V.1 (or most likely V.1, I haven’t yet confirmed with certainty that AUO21ED equals V.1).

Look, it’s just a common WLED-backlit TN LCD they put in Latitudes and Vostros too. One of several they use.
And ‘UltraSharp’ is just Dell’s marketing-speak for ~140 ppi panels, I believe.

BTW, people, it probably doesn’t make much sense to share ICC profiles. Just today, I’ve wasted some time doing internet ‘metaresearch’ of AUO B156HW02 V.1—how are people satisfied with them, or not.
My conclusion: There seems to be great variability in the quality of individual panels. Some people will just have a really bad luck getting a bad one. Have found one guy’s reporting having a disappointing panel replaced with another of the same (another B156HW02), and the replacement reportedly came out much better. It’s a lottery. (And the shame on Dell’s part putting these in Precision M4x00.)
Have found one review of Vostro 3560 (on Polish Notebookcheck) wherein the tested B156HW02 apparently covered almost 91% of sRGB (if I’m not confusing it), while some of these will reportedly only cover slightly more then 60% of sRGB (of just sRGB!).

This seems to me most likely a physical fault in the individual keyboard.
(Or you might have a very unique typing style. ;))

Without your posting this photo, I wouldn’t have noticed some unevenness in my M4800’s front. ;-)

I’ve read there are people who dropped their Precisions on concrete floor. I guess they wouldn’t mind such kink then ;-)
