I had my laptop ship with ubuntu, and they disabled the integrated graphics in the BIOS. I was getting about 2-2.5 hours with the dedicated card only. When I figured out the problem and re-enabled the integrated graphics, I now get 5-6 hours. It's a big difference.

Thanks, I think I will have to get it then. does it allow better LAN throughput or its still something in the middle between N and and GigaBit? its great if I don't have to plug CAT5 every time I need to upload something. although that said no matter how much faster wifi gets we always end up sticking in CAT5 as packets are much smaller on the copper :)

Thats quite large 50%>?! I was getting 4 hours but some report with ssd you can get extra 30-40 mins. As soon as I get my hands on my swap system Ill go whole hog to know what my flexibility is with only dedicated graphics. but one can only drink so many coffees :D

No actual numbers to report at the moment but I think notebook check had a good review of the dock with some real world numbers.

I have an SSD, so that might be part of it, but that's about what I was getting. I did have the brightness a little higher on the dedicated card, so it may really be more like 3 hours vs 5 or 6, but it's still a decent difference. Note that the battery in the m6800 is significantly larger than the standard size one in the m4800, though I think there is an extended capacity option that brings them to the same capacity.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you had one mSATA SSD and added another? If so, it's not working and won't be working. Only one of the slots is wired for mSATA, the rest are plain old mini-PCIe. You can probably trade your mSATA 256GB for a 2.5" 256GB SSD straight across, or there are adapters that will put an mSATA SSD into a standard sized SATA bay. Again, dual mSATA is not going to work. The wires just aren't there.

    Hi everybody!
I'm a newbie in this forum and a newbie in laptop world. I'm a 2D 3D artist working with 3dsMax, Zbrush, Mudbox, Photoshop, and 3D engines, and I've always worked with desktops. But now I need a laptop to work with and after some searches it looks like the M4800 could be the one I need. First of all I live in Canada and with a fully customizable workstation the price is much higher in the canadian Dell's website than in the US one. For example for an i7-4800MQ, 16Gb Ram (2x8), FHD, 2,5" 256Gb SATA SSD, K2100M it's 2400$ Us in the US website and 3600$ Can in the canadian website! It's not very attractive for canadian people! So I was thinking about buying a Dell refurbished M4800 in eBay. Prices are lower even with shipping and import charges from US!
Do you think it's a good idea to do that? Any one did that before?
Thanks for any help or suggestions!
