Hello, I am looking forward to an M4800 or an HP ZBook. Since you're already using your machine with linux, I was wondering if you could shed some light on the following questions:

    # Does the keyboard flex while typing on it? I've seen some videos on youtube showing that, not sure if the person was really trying to wrestle with the keyboard or was using it normally.
    # Is the trackpad usable under linux? Are there any driver issues?
    # Does the system allow one to hook up external monitors on all ports simultaneously (VGA,HDMI,Displayport) ?
    # If one disabled the discrete GPU in BIOS (not sure if its possible or not), then does it still allow one to use all external monitor ports?

I plan to use either Ubuntu or Arch. Let me know.

    Thanks in advance!

If you use it with a sledgehammer, sure it will flex.
The good keyboard is one of the reasons why I've been using several
generations of Dell Laptops - including this one.

Yes, the current standard driver will reset about once per hour and
the mouse pointer will jerk around for a split second. But by choosing another driver this can be prevented.

I didn't try that yet. I don't have that many displays (in one place)

One can not disable the NVIDIA GPU with the QHD+ display.

If it helps: i was able to use 4 monitors on my m6600: notebook screen, fhd 22" via hdmi, hp 27" 1440p screen via dp, 22" fhd via vga. With both Amd firepro m8900 and quadro 4000m i curently have. I dont see why it wouldnt be possible on m4800.

Dell Precision M4800 - Screen Choice - QHD+ or FHD??? - Canon Digital Photography Forums

    Dell Precision M4800

I would guess most artists want QHD for better color and detail. What about FHD or QHD and an external monitor? I'm thinking if you must have the best color and detail on the laptop screen and can live with some software display errors and scaling issues get QHD, otherwise get FHD and use external for your QHD. External is better than any laptop screen right? I wanted QHD but chose FHD for larger text, no software scaling issues, and power/battery savings is another plus but I'm not an artist.

I've made my choice! I'll mostly work at home with 2 externals display. Sometimes I know that I should work outside : then I'll see if I'm happy with the FHD display!
So I've bought a M4800 i7-4900MQ 16GB 512GB SSD 1080P BACKLIT K2100M. I want to add an mSata SSD card. Can someone recommend me a 512 GB mSata drive? I'll post my feedbacks when the laptop arrived.
    Thanks!

Ive been using crucial m500 for a few weeks now and im happy with it. My choice was based on a fact it uses same controller as m4 and it has proven reliability. If you want you can go withcfaster and more expensive samsung 840pro.

    2.5" or mSATA? What size?

I've been eyeing an mSATA card since the prices keep dropping.

The crucial m500 sounds good! I'm not so picky on performance so it should not be necessary to buy a more expensive one.
I'm waiting for my m4800 with a 2,5" 512GB SSD. I don't know which 2,5" SSD drive is (brand, specs). If someone know, is it better to have the OS in the 2,5 SSD or in the crucial m500? Thanks!

So after many questions in here by me, I hit the purchase button on the m4800. Thanks to all that answered. I now want to get a port replicator/ docking station, and I am looking to ebay for it. Seems Dell has played an April fools joke by making the 23 or so they sell all look the same and have virtually the same name, so it's nearly impossible to get the right one. Anyone have any idea if they all work or if there's a secret code to pick out the right one?
