The SIM slot is present whether you have a WWAN card or not... You just can't use it for anything until you install a WWAN card. :p

    Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to check automatically new updates (such as BIOS, ssd firmware, drivers). I have installed "My Dell" and "Dell System Detect". Is it enough to keep my Dell always updated?

    Thank you

Thank you. I was wishing that the WWAN card would have been installed accidentally even though there was no configuration option available.

Would the Sierra Mc7700 for AT&T LTE work?

Exactly. Even standing in between the dock and laptop, whether two feet away, even if they're perfectly level will cause a drop in connection. If the dock will stay on a desk or location permanently, it's pretty useful not having to connect wires every-time.

The official wwan cards that are options for the M4800 are:

    • Dell Wireless™ DW5570 Multi-mode HSPA+/-42Mbps full Mini-Card
    • Dell Wireless™ DW5808 Gobi 4G/LTE full Mini-Card

Whenever I ask if I can but it together with the QHD+ display they try to tell me
that it is not configurable with it. When I as for it as a seperate item I hit a wall of deaf-ears and no-email-replies. I wonder if my emails go directly to /dev/null in those cases. :(

All sales people I talked to so far claim that is not available in Europe. (Which might be possible if it doesn't support the standard European frequency ranges)

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any kind of documentation on either card so far.

Hey guys. New here. Been reading this thread and seems like a decent place to ask this question. If not, just re-direct me to the correct thread.

I'm seriously considering purchasing an M4800 (better value than an HP Zbook 15). I'm in the USA, so not many options. Probably buying the lowest (i7-4800MQ) config, booting Win 7 (from the installed hard drive), getting everything running OK, install Norton Ghost, repartition the HDD so that the C: drive is about 20GB larger than the current consumed space, and adding a data partition for the rest. Next, create a system image with Ghost (for a backup). Then install a 256GB Plextor M5M mSATA, partition it with a primary boot partition the same size as C: drive on the HDD, and a data partition for the rest, clone the OS from the C: drive (on the HDD) to the mSATA (using Ghost), boot to BIOS, change SATA to AHCI and change boot drive to the mSATA. Then reboot, using mSATA as boot drive, and having the HDD as a backup boot drive and data drive.

Problem is, I haven't dealt with mSATA SSDs before. Has anyone cloned Win 7 to an mSATA SSD from the OEM installed HDD? Since the M4800 evidently doesn’t come with a Win 7 install disk, it seems that cloning is the only way to get the Win 7 installation on an mSATA that I install myself (other than purchasing another Win 7 install disk).

Also, I may also be getting a Samsung 840 EVO (or Pro) to put in the HDD slot, relegating the OEM hard drive to a hard drive caddy (from Newmodeus) in the optical bay. If so, will I be able to use the Samsung cloning software to clone the OEM HDD to the Plextor mSATA?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Gerry Green

mSATA behaves just like a regular disk. You can use standard cloning software, I always use Acronis True Image.

Don't know if the Samsung cloning software will work... Depends if they have it locked to work only with Samsung drives.

You should be able to find a win 7 ISO online and install with that, using the license key beneath the battery.

Then you can get whatever drivers you need off the recovery disc or Dells site.
