When these first went on sale, there was no 4k option. The highest resolution option was QHD+, which is 3200 x 1800. I think this was superseded by the 4k option.

Hi. I currently have an eDP M4800 with the i7-4910MQ CPU.

I've read that it doesn't support optimus (or whatever gpu switching tech these use), since it couldn't drive the LED panel, but according to the Intel spec sheet for this CPU, it has eDP/DP/HDMI/VGA support with the maximum resolution being 3840x2160@60Hz , which is above the native resolution of my QHD+ screen (3200x1800).

Anyone knows why did Dell limit it this way?

    Hi guys

    Hoping to get a resolution.

    I. Just got a refurbished M4800 and on setting up, I noticed it will randomly go into standby.

I eventually found that pushing down on the palm rest was what was causing this. Any ideas how I can solve this? I looked at a disassembly video and can't find anything that looks like a sensor there.

Any other ideas please? As this is rendering the laptop unusable

    Thanks

Are you wearing any bracelets with magnetic clasps? That may trigger standby mode on some laptops.

The magnetic sensor starts to the left of the HDD light indicatior and is active all the way to the bottom of caps lock key.
If you put a magnet in this area, the screen turns off and if you remove it the screen comes on again.
It is the most sensitive on the left side of this area but it is still active if you move the magnet a little to the right until it is lost where the W or S key starts on the keyboard.

Set the computer to "do nothing" when the screen is closed. (The default behavior is to go to sleep.) Then maybe you'll just have screen flickering instead of standby. If that is the case, it's probably the magnetic sensor mentioned making the laptop think that the lid is shut.

Hi, guys. Wanna ask you, I got M4800 few months ago, everything's cool and I fueled this machine with big SSD, more RAM and fast CPU.
But one thing disappoints me. The build quality of my laptop is not as good as should be. Here is the link. You can see that the gap between the vga connector and the case is not the same. I have not tried to connect vga cable to my laptop (cause don't have it), but I'm afraid it could not even be connect. Also you can see, the hdmi and the esata ports are not symmetrical relative to the case. Maybe someone faced this problem and know how to solve it? Or, maybe, it's just poorly manufactured case. :)

That seems like maybe the motherboard was replaced (it hosts all three of those ports) and just not aligned quite right when it was screwed back in...

    I second Aaron's assessment.

Thanks, guys! Gonna check it. I will tell you the reason later, after doing this. :)
