Ah, alright. Thank you for explaining that. So there is no hope that in the future we'd get the Pascal cards working then?

It is basically a matter of finding a vBIOS that works with the specific card and this generation of systems. We only have a working vBIOS for the Quadro P5000. @RMSMajestic is trying out some other cards in the M6700 (not looking hopeful). A vBIOS from the card working in another system may or may not work, it's a bit of trial and error without any guarantee of success. Someone has to take it on for each card. There aren't many people who would want to attempt this, since the cards can be expensive, and it might be a wild goose chase or at worst you could flash a vBIOS that makes the system unusable to a point when you cannot flash anymore. (Look at @JEAMN's attempt with the GeForce 1070.) You can't modify existing vBIOS or cross-flash a different card's vBIOS because of signing/security features introduced in the Pascal generation.

So, yeah. It's possible that someone will get it working for additional cards, but it's not looking super hopeful.

No. The 4k screens have a different MB I believe for the m4800 series.

I've read that its the case. Would there be anyway to check in Windows if I have a compatible motherboard, or would I need to disassemble?

If you remove the keyboard and the bezel there are letters to the right of the ram memory printed on the motherboard (see image below)

Or you can lookup your service tag on dell website which you can find in the bios.
You can also use Aida64 and look under screen panel and see if your existing panel says LVDS or eDP which would be the most easy solution

AFAIK there are only two motherboard variants, LVDS and eDP. Early systems shipped with LVDS for low-resolution screens and eDP for high-resolution screens. Later systems shipped with eDP for all screen types. If you have eDP then you should be good to install a 4K screen. Like @unnoticed said, checking whether your display is LVDS or eDP would be the easiest way to find out.

Does the 4800 have a metal lid and similar build quality as the 6800?

Yes, the systems are pretty much the same in terms of build/materials other than the 15" vs 17" size.

Does anyone know if the Dell Wireless Docking Station WLD15 can be used on the M4800? I understand that I will need to upgrade my WiFi card.

The specs sheet says that you need a system with an Intel WiGig antenna (in addition to a specific wireless card). I'm not surprised if a special antenna is needed, since these docks use the 60 GHz band (vs. the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands used by the Wi-Fi card and Bluetooth). The M4800 certainly did not come with such an antenna installed. Not sure how easy it would be to mount such an antenna in the M4800, but if you did, I suspect that it would work. (It looks like they are not hard to find on eBay.)

    [Edit]
It looks like the Wi-Fi cards needed are only available in M.2/NGFF form? If that's the case you'd have to do something like this to mount them, using up the mSATA slot.
