Update to DELL BIOS A19, (through setup using F12 and USB stick with file on it) no issues.

Anyone ever try to get a 120hz screen running on one of these?

Im thinking about picking up a used one in the next few months to pair with a 965m 3.0a and retire my m4600 into a media server role, mainly plex.

    Thanks guys!

    Greeting everybody,

I just created this account to join in this discussion
because I want to buy a m4800 and considering upgrade its GPU and cpu

I have not yet to disassemble a laptop, so
Is there any video or guideline to update the CPU from i7 4900qm to i7 4940xm ?
Is it worth the performance and the price ?

    the current config I ordered is 4900qm + k2100m + QHD
I usually use Light room+Photoshop+Illustrator+Premiere Pro+After Effect mostly for Photography and Motion/Animation short clips

Also, I plan to install :
1 mSata for Cache and Temp files of Win
1 WD Black 1T for storage
    1 SSD 240/256GB for Win+adobe+plug-in

Can you sugguest any other config to maximize m4800 performance?

From my understanding the XM cpu's will power throttle anyways so seems kind of wasteful in these machines, I wouldnt bother unless of course it was a good deal to begin with.

You could install the 965m 4GB 3.0a GPU and that would probably be about the limit.

I am new to mobile workstation so could you clarify more

The chip will throttle due to lack of power delivery on the platform. At least this was @valuxin had told me from experience on the m6800.

Woa thank you for the info, I never thought about the cpu and the laptop power capacity

Someone suggested that m2000m would be better choice, but there is a heat sink problem at full load and he has to rewrite Bios or some think like that to make the card run smoothly

    anyone try this VGA?

On what grounds would you suggest the 965M 4GB 3.0a for the M4800? What is the TPU (degrees) does it run at? Will stock OEM K2100M pads be sufficient for it? I've never looked into a GPU upgrade for a laptop before but require one since I want 2 x UHD 4K monitors to simultaneously display at 60hz.

Comment from months earlier on that video:

"OMG. What is wrong with you. 1st of all this is not m4800. On 4800 the gpus slot is MXM A3, this video card, GTX 965 is on MXM B3 slot, is much larger, it won't fit. Krypts, you do not have Precision m4800. Quadro 1800 fx is found in Precision M4500 and is soldered to the motherboard, cannot be upgraded. Stop posting fake videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

GeForce 965M is available in both MXM 3.0a and MXM 3.0b format. The MXM 3.0a card will fit in the M4800, but the MXM 3.0b card will not.

OK Fair enough. Checking the link below here, why is this card referred to as "Clevo" ?

    http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3429775/list-mxm-gpus.html

TDP is "unknown" for the 965M....why would that be? looks like its statistically a better card over M2000M, but only marginally.

    https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2740/quadro-m2000m
    https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2634/geforce-gtx-965m

Also TechPowerUp only recognise 965M available in 3.0b (MXM-B) yet there's 1 of these cards (with this description) on ebay but is pictured in half size MXM-A format..!? I've enquired further with the seller.

What's this about the 965M "VBIOS not supporting VGA / LVDS maybe" ? From the Youtube video of someone doing an unboxing of the MXM card...

It is listed as "Clevo" probably because it was pulled from a Clevo laptop. NVIDIA doesn't sell these cards except for through laptop manufacturers... Anything that you find online was pulled from a laptop, and there are differences between the cards from each vendor so sometimes it is helpful to know where it came from.

TechPowerUp is a good resource but it is not a definitive source of truth. I've spotted a few issues with the database there before and communicated with the author, he's just gathering stuff based on whatever information that he can find but for obscure laptop GPUs he doesn't always quite get everything correct. In this case, the 965M was probably originally available as MXM 3.0b only, the 3.0a variant came later, and the TechPowerUp database was never updated.

Cool thanks for that. I note in the above video the person using 965M card in M4800 said HDMI/RGB output doesnt work...also unfamiliarr with the TDP and if this is going to be noisy as hell with system fans once installed...

What's this about the 965M "VBIOS not supporting VGA / LVDS maybe"
