I love my m4800 and I'm usually a thinkpad person. I find the qhd 3200x1800 a little hard to see at 100% dpi but readable, 4k would be difficult to use at that dpi. Plus I bought mine on ebay for a sale, with a ebay bucks and with 4x ebay bucks promotion so it didn't cost near what Dell wanted for it.

I've tried nvidia's driver and the performance was very poor so I went back to Dell's driver. I thought you could run 2 different dpi on two monitors on win 8.1 but it appears to be false advertising.

You can run two different DPI on two different monitors, but it doesn't work as well as you would hope... Things look right on the monitor designated as primary, and are rendered at that DPI. Apps are scaled up or down for display on other monitors, adding blurriness.

Id really like to hear from people running ubuntu/virtualbox/win10guest... I have some questions...
Im running a m2000m I dont know if it changes the outcome..

    1) Does everything scale good on ubuntu with things higer than fhd, like thye qhd/uhd?
    2) if running UHD on laptop, and two external 1080 screens, will everything work nice together?
    3) If running windows 10 in virtualbox, will scaling still be ok?

    THanks if you know!

    Not true.

I have 2x display port, 1xhdmi, 1x laptop screens working. 4 in total. Switching is of in BIOS. Using m2000m.

If I enable switching while using display port, then laptop display doesn't work. So I enable switching when only on battery.

    Using Ubuntu 16.04 & 3.64 nvidia driver

Hey guys, I've been having a lot of issues with my M4800 in the past weeks and got lucky enough to where Dell is replacing it with an even better spec'd 7510. However, one issue is still bugging me. There is an "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. I have spent several hours troubleshooting it and even changed the motherboard and GPU and it's still there. Also tried on Win 10 and 7. I was hoping someone could look through Device Manager and see what component that is. It is located on Port_#0008.Hub_#0005. If any additional information is requested feel free to ask. However I just want to see what your computers have plugged into that port. Also, the Device Instance Path is USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\6&310223C0&0&8. You can find that in Device Manager > Select an items properties > Details > Click on Drop Down and select Device Instance Path.

    Thanks in advance!

Had this exact issue on the M4800. It was the ControlVault device (contains the smartcard reader, NFC reader, and fingerprint reader if you have one). Persisted after OS reinstall, and the issue went away if the drive was moved to a different M4800, so clearly a hardware issue. Dell couldn't figure it out after multiple hardware replacements, so they replaced the system with a 7510.

Those who got the 7510 replacement, are you happy with it over the 4800? I hate some of the hardware changes they have made and it seems the status lights above the keyboard are now gone, but my machine is getting a little old at this point.

Status lights have been moved to the very front of the system, I don't really mind this. On the whole, I like it better than the M4800. Build quality seems a bit more solid and you have some new bits like USB-C/Thunderbolt and M.2 options for SSDs, otherwise it is just an incremental upgrade. I'm still upset about the keyboard layout (no dedicated Home/End keys) which trips me up whenever I have to work away from the dock.

That said if you are looking to upgrade because your M4800 is "a little old", the 7510 is only one generation newer and in terms of computational capability it is truly an incremental upgrade unless you have a need for something like USB-C. Additionally, we should be hearing about Kaby Lake Precisions (with NVIDIA Pascal GPUs!) within the next few months. Probably worth waiting a little bit yet.

Hi everyone. Recently purchased an M800, and absolutely loving it. only issue is the fans never kick when i want them to. I've been trying to resolve this problem using programs, and trying to use the dell engineering mode, however nothing is working at all.

Any chance anyone knows a solution to this? Or a way to manually control the fan speed?

    Cheers
