wow, would love to know what the specifics of that panel are that make it so finicky

 

Noticed my power jack at the back was getting quite wobbly, is there anything I can do to fix this?

 

Has anyone been having weird issues with Windows 10 and the FirePro M5100? Hardware acceleration doesn't work for 1080p60 videos on YouTube (crashes the driver), system-wide lockups every few days, Windows ignoring sleep settings? Or am I the only one?

 

If your system is under warranty (all M4800's should still be in the 3-year window), have Dell replace it. I'm pretty sure the power jack can be replaced separately --- that is, without replacing the whole motherboard.

I know this was a while ago, but did the motherboard and battery replacement solve the issue for you? I'm experiencing the same, it occurs when the machine is moved, but only occasionally. This "occasional M4800 reboot when moved" is a rather strange issue, but would be great to know what exactly causes it and if there's a fix apart from changing whole parts.

That's a post from a long time ago, but I'll say, my M6700 used to power off when it was moved. Turned out to be solved by just making sure that the bottom panel piece (that you remove with the two screws under the battery) is in place really well. If you took the bottom panel off and its position was not quite right when you put it back on, it can interrupt the connection to the battery when you jostle the system, cutting power and shutting the system down.

 

Yes, it fixed my problem and I have not had it since. The A15 BIOS had this in the change log: "Addressed Laptops will intermittently reboot if picked up, moved, or set down near the battery." so you might want to flash to the latest A16 BIOS if you are not already running it.

 

Yes, the power jack is a separate component, but it will require an almost total disassembly of the laptop to get to it.

I've just about had it with my M4800. Laptop fails to recognise my 180W PSU and is downclocking to 800MHz. Just another issue in a long list of problems I've had with my unit.

 

At the risk of repeating questions posted before (I'am a nono when it comes to computers): I have a M4800 with low resolution screen (1366x768). I would like to upgrade to 920x1080. I already found out that it is possible but there are problems with the cable. Looking for screens, I found some with 30 and some with 40 pins connections. How do I find out which one I need?

How old is your M4800? Sometime in early 2015, they changed the display connector on the motherboard.
