M4800 Owner's Thread

I've also had a chance to create a couple of color profiles for the Sharp IGZO 4K 15.6" display.

They were created on the K2100M card, but that should not make a difference.

There are two profiles for a brightness level of 4 and 6, respectively.

 

Thanks for the detailed reply. Will check it out for few days how it goes as the drivers now seems to be in place now, and also try out the configurations in nVIDIA control panel.

 

You mentioned you have everything set for Intel graphics (except for few applications which you have set to be driven by nVIDIA) in that case you have to set switchable graphics + Intel graphics to drive the DP set in BIOS (May be this is causing the issue for me as I have not selected this option)? The description says with this option checked DP1 will be driven by Intel, so the other one DP2 will be driven by nVIDIA?

 

I do not have this option set, in my case, I have two DisplayPort displays connected (when docked) and they are both driven by the NVIDIA GPU.

 

If I set the battery charging mode to Custom in the BIOS, with the Low set to 52% and the High set to 62%, why does my system still charge the battery to100%?

Is there some documentation on the battery charging modes for the M4800 battery?

Apparently the way it works is pretty simplistic. Say you want to maintain the battery between 50 and 60%. If you discharge the battery to 70% and then plug the computer back on AC, the system will simply maintain the 70% charge level (which is OK). If the battery is discharged below the threshold, it will charge back to 60% and then stop. This is fine as well.

I wish that the system will run on battery until the level drops to the selected percentage, and ONLY THEN switch to AC power.

 

Dell did start shipping the m4800's with a 1080p IPS screen recently. I picked one up from the outlet that had the same description for the monitor part and it was an IPS screen. The 1080P TN panel was a terrible choice for this laptop. I am glad to see that Dell upgraded. Get the Dell chat rep to confirm the part description for the monitor as many in the outlet still have the 1080P TN panel.

 

Is the 4k display in the m4800 (and 7510 too, I'm assuming) wide gamut? Mobiletechreview just put out a review for the new XPS 15 w/ 4k IGZO display and they say that display is 100% adobe rgb.

This was one of the best TN panels produced. Can be had for $58.99 but will come with 1 to 5 dead pixels.

For around $85, you would have a nice panel upgrade.

 

The panel used in the Dell M4800 is the Sharp LQ15D1JW02, which is a high-gamut panel. I'm not sure if it's used on the XPS15 though.

 

It looks like it is high sRGB gamut, but the panel doesn't exceed sRGB, right? I have a Dell monitor that is wide gamut and unless I put it in sRGB mode, the colors are too oversaturated in applications that aren't color managed. Is this the case with the 4k IGZO laptop panels?
