M4800 Owner's Thread

I'm pretty sure M4800 can only use two DisplayPort connectors, if you're using an NVIDIA card. (i.e. You can't use the two on the dock plus the one on the system.... you can only use two of them.)

Installed already, working so far.

Addressed Laptops will intermittently reboot if picked up, moved, or set down near the battery.

I had this one with my M6700 (it has been resolved by making sure the bottom plate is on really, really good). Surprised there is a BIOS fix, wish they would backport it...

 

Hi.. everybody.. i`m new in the forum.. i just wanted to ask some technical question.. its possible to install those new 16 gb so-dimm in a M4800? The particular model is Crucial 16GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model CT204864BF160B.

I will like to have 64 gb of ram in my laptop... sorry if is a dumb question... i just want a opinion...

From what I know that should work. It's not a dumb question at all since very few people are running that configuration and Intel doesn't officially support that memory capacity on the chip. As long as you have a quad core (4xx0MQ) it should work though. Let us know what happens!

 

Have a look here (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/ent/19/SLN291056/EN). Look towards the end for Quad Core configurations. As PalladianPD mentioned it should be compatible and work, though DELL says otherwise !

 

Thanks both of you for your orientation.. and life is short so.. i'm going to pull the trigger on those dimms.. as soon i receive them i will let you know how goes... keep tuned and tanks again..!!

That should really come without saying. The max output of the nine-cell battery is 90W, and it can supply this much for a mere hour while 90W is way below what the machine needs to run at full steam.

On the other hand, as opposed to Aaron’s claim, I can squeeze around 8 hours out of it, maybe up to nine, if I’m going to use the machine for what MacBook Airs are typically used.

 

Let me take this opportunity to share that I have learnt to sit by M4800 roughly against the keycap H, way toward the left of the screen’s centre. It only felt weird for a while. I just use the left 3/4 of the screen for primary content and the rightmost quarter for panels etc.—if the software allows such setup.
(Sitting this off-centre relatively to the screen has really been the only option for me to not be twisting my trunk unnaturally while typing.)
