I don't even get WHAT he's implying about the GPU vram. I have a k2100m with Hynix memory, and can push it hard in gaming or CAD without issues.

I agree with you - someone's just bring butthurt and making sweeping generalizations without backing them up, just because they can.

I want to connect m4800 with 4 FHD monitors (through HDMI and DisplayPort). I was looking at connecting One FHD monitor through HDMI output (on the back, I do not have the dock), and 3 FHD monitors using Displayport using this StarTech.com Triple Head DisplayPort 1.2 Multi Monitor MST Hub http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Triple-DisplayPort-Multi-Monitor/dp/B00JLRBB8I and from hub to monitors using DP->HDMI cables.

Can you folks help me and let me know:
    1. If this solution would work with m4800 and any other suggestions?
    2. If any of you are using this http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Triple-DisplayPort-Multi-Monitor/dp/B00JLRBB8I with m4800 in similar fashion and how good is the product?
    3. When you use an MST hub would it affect the performance of the laptop like when you connect to multiple displays to a displaylink USB 3.0 hub or is it that if you connect to DP all the processing is done in the hardware so it will not affect performance?
    4. Also, I read somewhere in the thread that daisy chain is supported with the DP 1.2 provided with m4800, could you confirm. Is DP1.2 mandatory for this Startech MST hub?

    Thanks.

Anyone know what the SRGB coverage is for the newer IPS FHD panels that they are putting in these? Also, contrast ratio?

I asked a Dell rep and they didn't know...

EDIT: Looks like this is it:
    http://www.panelook.com/B156HAN01.1_AUO_15.6_LCM_overview_19048.html

    700:1 contrast ratio
72% NTSC (notebookcheck says this is around 90 or 91% srgb)

I"m thinking of upgrading the display panel on my Dell Precision M4800 to an IPS display from the current Non-IPS display. I've been looking at the LG LP156WF6 SP B1 and the AU Optronics b156han01 .1 does anybody have any opinions on which one is better as far as image quality etc or, if you have upgraded you display panel then which panel did you use and what where your results? . Your prompt replies will be appreciate

Hi all! I'm new here, but I've been running into a weird issue with my M4800 and was wondering if it's just my machine or if any of you have run into the same problem. Whenever I stop playing audio for at least a minute and then resume playing audio, the volume at resume is noticeably (and at times alarmingly) louder than before I had stopped playing audio. Usually, I would hit the volume down key and volume would drop back to the normal scale and hitting the volume up key would set the volume back to the original level at which I had it. I've had my machine for a little over a year now and I do have ProSupport, but when I talked to the representative, he said that there were no reports of this issue after a fair amount of investigation. I want to say that this is a driver issue since the problem was not present when I installed the generic Realtek driver (I can't use the generic driver long term since there is no audio out through the headphone port). Also, the problem has been present in multiple clean installs of Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 so I don't believe any settings or other programs are at fault. My system specs are below in case that is relevant. Hopefully this is just a driver issue that Dell can resolve. Thanks!

    Specs:
    Windows 10 Pro
    Intel Core i7-4810MQ
    UltraSharp FHD(1920x1080)
    24GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM
500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD (OS Drive)
    128GB MyDigitalSSD 128GB BP4 SSD (mSATA)
500GB Seagate SSHD (Optical Drive Bay)
    AMD FirePro M5100 2GB GDDR5
    Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac
    9 Cell 97Whr Battery
    Internal English Backlit Dual-Pointing Keyboard
    Webcam and Microphone Array

I had this after upgrading to Windows 10 (from Windows 7). I resolved it by using the Microsoft generic "High Definition Audio Device" driver, instead of the Realtek driver. Device manager gave me a warning that the driver might not be compatible, but after installing it works fine.

If Windows Update keeps trying to install the Realtek driver and it is causing trouble, there is a tool you can use to prevent a particular update from installing.

    [Edit]
To confirm, using the generic Microsoft driver, the headphone port works as expected.

Please don't cross-post the same question in multiple places. The forum rules actually prohibit this.

Thanks for the reply Aaron! I've contacted the representative and gave him the additional information. Right now, he says that he's working to get in contact with someone on the Dell campus who has lab access so that the driver can be tested. Hopefully, we will get an update soon. I took your advice and am currently using the "High Definition Audio Device" driver. The volume amplification issue is gone, but I do get random pops. Is this something you experience as well? Thanks again for your insight!

I have one more question apart from the questions listed in http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m4800-owners-thread.736032/page-164#post-10105390

Lets says instead of the startech hub I connect M4800 to an E-port APR (advanced port replicator), and use the 2 DP 1.2 (the Dell site mentions you can display up to 4 displays using DP with daisy chain), and at the same time can I use the DP on the laptop iteslf to drive another monitor?

    The specs are:

    Specs:
    Dell M4800

    Windows 8.1
    Intel Core i7-4910MQ
    FHD(1920x1080)
    16GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM
    250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
    Nvidia Quadro K2100 2GB GDDR5
    Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac
    9 Cell 97Whr Battery
