So it turns out the A10 is a stinker, in some peculiar way. I just recreated the problem—inadvertently, suffice to say. All I did was re-setting everything in the BIOS to the settings I had used, then I exited (the BIOS rebooted the computer), I hit F2 again, and there I am, readying a screwdriver for another trip inside the beast.

I wish there was another way of resetting the CMOS. Is there? I tried some 45 seconds of powerbutton holding, with the main battery taken out. Did not do zip.

I guess I found it. Enabling UEFI network stack does it—possibly only without PXE enabled, or not, and possibly in combination with some other settings, or not. I have no further interest in testing every possibility. It should be Dell’s work.

And no, I most likely don’t have any need for UEFI network stack. It just sounded cool, and its description in the BIOS made it sound cool.

I cannot confirm. I would be surprised if Dell gave in on this one, though. It has nothing to do with technology, it must just be some exec order meant to sell more of their power bricks.

A10 now supports "Embedded DisplayPort"....can this mean Optimus support? I heard some rumblings that Optimus was not supported on the M4800 with QHD+ was that the QHD+ panel needs the BIOS to support the eDP port in some fashion...

If that were so, then Intel HD 4600 would show up as a device in device manager after flashing A10. So anyone with QHD+ (who does not need UEFI network stack enabled or to use power supplies under 180W) can easily check this out.

Then at the very least they should sell some decent size power supplies. Those humongous bricks together with the stiff cables waste far too much space in my backpack. Due to that I carry the much smaller 90W power supply around with me.

How many of you carry a power supply around in their backpacks 24/7? Am I the only one?

I’d say the size and weight of the original 180W really prohibits carrying it around.
That’s precisely why people look for all kinds of other solutions.

Do you know of Dell’s Idea Storm?

That seems to be a place with a relatively highest chance that Dell will listen to reasonably voiced suggestions, if they gather votes.

It's not a question of bios support - a whole new motherboard is needed - the intel GPU is not wired to anything with the current QHD+ board. No chance of Optimus support in other words.
