    If anyone’s interested…
It seems to be a major update.

The mention of an UEFI vuln worries me. Does A10 still completely screw up the machine when 130W or smaller adapters are used?

Everybody stay away from A10. Too late for me… What’s wrong with Dell, really?!

The upgrade went seemingly OK. I rebooted, kept using the computer, then I thought I would look into the BIOS setup to see if there is anything new or changed.
Restarted the computer, pressed F2 at the Dell logo, and waited and waited. The blue bar and the sign “Preparing to enter setup” or so NEVER WENT AWAY.
Switched the computer off. Switched it on. The computer is literally BRICKED, if that makes sense to say of a laptop. Maybe BOARDED…
    And the NBD is Monday…

Wow thanks for saving us on that MJS. I also got a "forced" reason to swap out my motherboard had I done the bios update. Let us know what happens!

Don't panic! I am running RAID 0 mSATA + normal SSD. M4800A10.exe is fine I didn't even backup :) I think some of the USB devices had been left in the ports that's why Unit didn't update me thinks. annoying thing about this but whole other subject.

Yeah, of course some devices were left in USB ports, such as the mouse. Was there any instruction to disconnect everything?
I don’t panic, I’m just bracing myself for a really long weekend, and it might get yet more interesting afterwards, for I bought my machine in retail, and Dell seems to think the machine is still owned by a distributor two levels up the chain. I dialled a local ProSupport number, thinking I would get ‘an appointment’ for Monday, but as it was after business hours, I went through a useless call with an Indian instead. Not his fault, of course.

BTW, do you boot by UEFI/GPT by any chance, or do you use legacy MBR?

OK, I might have my computer back. Disconnecting and reconnecting the coin-cell battery helped.
(Stupidly did I take out the harddrive before trying this since I had gotten myself fooled into thinking it was something with UEFI booting.)

BTW, printing out the Owner’s manual just as I got the computer was a damn-good idea. ;)
Not backing up immediatelly prior to the BIOS update was pretty dumb, on the other hand.
And keeping my old laptop handy and operational? A potential life-saver, I’d say. ;)

if something is bound to happen it will happen :)

I am using the RAID, and hence of course your situation and reasons for being "bricked" may be different, but my reason in replying was to say that it went well with my setup (RAID 0) with windows 8 32gb ram.

I know exactly where you are coming from regarding a guy on the wire who is seemingly acts like he is in "superposition" you must turn him 3 times to get it right lol!

so not all is lost :)
