Thank you for the great tips kingfrog.
The outlet's twitter coupons can potentially save big on outlet devices.
Techbargains coupons are more like a marketing/advertising push though.

My experience speaking with Ric was not all that pleasant, neither it was fruitful.
He sounded like a terrible hangover (Monday morning?), sounded rather completely unengaged, nonchalant, could find nothing above and beyond what I could find on the Outlet site myself.
On the contrary an outlet online chat gal was very helpful and was able to find an interesting deal that was not listed on the site.

Rick saw my cart and two machines I was ready to pull the trigger on. I told him I would purchase one today and another in a couple weeks and give him the sale. That may be why he dug deep for a bargain. I saved $200 by calling (and who knows how much more they will offer to keep it when I call back for an RMA) But yeah it's hit and miss. I have in the past called a few times before getting a good rep and a good deal. I did not this time because I thought saving $800 vs a new one (even though the refurbs are new and carry all the warranty of new) was good enough. They don't usually have a lot of 4700s on the outlet site. I think they keep those for the reps to sell over the phone and on the net.

Twitter coupons are the best. That is where Techbargians gets them and then redirects. I never us techbargains except to compare.I think they get a piece of SPECIFIC deals they route you to. The Twitter coupons apply to everything.
Good luck. I hope you get a good one..

I think the M4600 panel was a LG LP156WF1 TLF3. IIRC, it only had a standard gamut. You lucked out if you got a good B2 panel... The LG LP156WF1 (SL) (B2) is the notorious orangegate (pure red shows as burnt orange) panel used in early M4700s, HP Envy 15s, and Vaio SEs. The B6 was intended to fix the problem, but only succeeded in making burnt orange into red-orange.

Out of curiosity - (more like...to verify) - I have an l502x (XPS 15 version 2) in my house now with the RGBLED screen (from what I saw earlier in this thread to be a B156HW01 V.7 but this hasn't been verified yet) - I can simply swap this screen into my m4700 no problem? (I admit to not minding the glossy display, since I don't work under harsh light, the glare doesn't bother me)

I have never swapped an LCD on a computer and don't know the in's and out's. I have done other easy things and have went down to the processor swap on an alienware, but screens have always scared me.

Edit: Let me also ask questions that will save me and you guys trouble...

For "business" use, I'd like to use the laptop for photography (lightroom) - color accuracy is rated as very important. However I love the RGBLED of my l502x..everything simply "pops" on that display. Is there a better option than the l502x display (if it's compatible) for my usage of needing color accuracy, but loving the look of RGBLED?

The V7 will look the same on your M4700 as on the XPS 15, and probably handle motion better (better GPU). If you can solder, you can do the swap .... but soldering is NOT required, just a "level of psychomotor coordination" threshold. Oh, read the manual and watch the laptopscreen.com videos before you start. Go slow and easy pulling the bezels off. Were I you, I would buy a new V7 rather than rob an XPS (unless the XPS is end of life).

Thanks for replying bud! I thought it over and decided two things:

    1. I will leave the XPS alone as I do plan on selling that unit.
    2. went to laptopscreen.com and purchased: v4 B156HW01 – 95% gamut matte

I figured that I would pop it in, and if the matte actually bothered me over the glossy version, then I could possibly swap both laptop monitors if I felt up to it. I will most definitely be reading and watching before taking the plunge. a quick check for video's on youtube didn't net me anything in particular to the m4700...if I can't find anything I will consider attempting to make my own video.

Dell has a nice presentation of the M6700, but nothing for the M4700 which is shame really.

Received the M4700 yesterday. First Precision.

    Thoughts:

Its beast for a 15 incher As large as my old 1705 Inspiron we use in the Kitchen.

But I am coming from an M11X which i gave to my daughter. Noticably faster although I was perplexed by the 5.2 CPU index score.
I am not about bench marking so that didn't bother me just wondered.
The LCD is not as good as the Alienware. A bit more "washed out" Black is not as black but it is crisp. Perhaps the gloss vs the Matte increases that observation.

I think there is something missing on the joy stick in the keyboard as all I see is a recessed square. Needs and eraser or something. I don't use that so I won't bother Dell about it.

I do miss BT and ordered a USB 4.0 BT but I want to order Dells and install it. Looking for a part number.

This thing sits much better in my lap and the keyboard is much better than the M11X. Nice and wide. I have not found the back lighting .

For $1008 I could not have done better.
