I'm not sure what you mean by high power? USB 3.0 ports provide up to .9 A of current. The power share port is the USB 3.0 port on the right side of the machine, towards the front. iPads charge from the wall outlet at 2 A.

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a M4700 which has a normal 750GB SATA HDD in.

I bought a 128GB mSATA (6Gb/s) SSD from Crucial to go in the mSATA/Mobile internet slot.
Crucial say this is GAURANTEED M4700 compatible, hmmm........

I installed it, booted up, the BIOS saw it straight away, Windows saw it, installed it, so i went to computer management to Initialize it.

Problem, when i try to initialize it, WINDOWS says "THE REQUEST COULD NOT BE PERFORNED BECAUSE OF AN I/O ERROR"

I am on my second SSD as i rang Crucial, AND Dell, who both said i was doing it right, so i sent it back to Crucial.
The have just sent me a replacement, and guess what.........
It won't work, exactly the same problem please help!!

SO far ive tried Updating ALL windows drivers, Flashing the BIOS, iv'e even reinstalled windows with the mSATA installed first.
I am a Microsoft Network Professional and i'm stuffed if i can work out why it doesn't work!

I know the drive is mSATA III (6Gb/s), and for some bizarre reason the new Dell M4700 only runs mSATA II (3Gb/s),
but this shouldn't matter as they are meant to be fully backwards compatible?.

    My full spec is:

    Windows 7 64bit Pro.
    I7 3720QM @2.6GHZ
    16GB 1600MHZ RAM (2x8GB, 2x free slots)
    K2000M Quadro grtaphics
    Intel PRO wireless
    Bluetooth card
    DVD r/W
    SD card rader
    etc.

Can anybody suggest anything?, am i missing a driver, or are Crucial telling lies about it's compatibility,?????
as ive been told Dell program the system to only let certain mSATA's work??.

    Many thanks,

    Dan

Okay, I've seen all you guys adding ram, etc. but I'm looking at not voiding the warranty. (I know that some warranties you can void practically by sneezing on a laptop.) So, since this isn't a consumer notebook we're talking about, would changing the ram/gpu/etc components void the warranty?

Also, I was looking at getting LoJack (for what it's worth) but I was trying to see how they are handling in house W8 OS installations but there was no W8 LoJack option. I admit to being rather puzzled by this. Any ideas?

I also saw a difference in monitor and keyboard options. While the monitor cost the same (TN panel) but was noted as specifically for W8, the keyboard cost more. Are they using a different keyboard with the new Windows key? Or since it is backlit (now W8 non-backlit option?), I'm puzzled as to why it is less expensive than the Win7 backlit keyboard...

Dell reps have stated here that changing hardware does not void the warranty. This an area that Dell is good with. They don't make this machine easy to service (two screws out reveals most swappable components) and post detailed "how do I replace X component" directions for everything in the manual for nothing.

The only catch is that Dell might request that you return the machine to its factory configuration when troubleshooting hardware issues. (Depends on the issue and on the technician.) So you'd want to keep your original memory around.

Awesome, thanks. I think I've obviously read far too many tech specs/manuals in the past couple weeks because I was thinking it was quite a few more screws than that.

    Hi all,
i'm from italy and got two days ago my new 4700 precision with 3840qm cpu and nvidia k2000m
for use with 3dsmax, photosohop and other graphics works.

Nice notebook but with one great problem:
the TN LCD screen is VERY VERY VERY BAD!
I'm really disappointed, a professional notebook with such a poor panel.

The free hwinfo32 (or hwinfo64 for 64bit) utility (HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools) reports that the panel is :
    Monitor Name: AU Optronics B156HW02
    Monitor Name (Manuf): B156HW2 [DELL P/N: F2J5X]

Date Of Manufacture: Week: 4, Year: 2011
    Monitor Hardware ID: Monitor\AUO21ED

(Same panel is mounted on dell latitude e6530 according to this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/679727-e6530-owners-thread.html and same problems)

    Two issue with this panel:
    A) there is an exagerated blue dominant, for the first time in more than 20 years using every kind of pc and notebook I had to use the graphics card's control panel to change the color tone, trying to reduce the issue i used the nvidia panel, the blue channel is now set on 20% luminosity and 15% contrast.

    B) there is an annoying granularity, like one described in this blog under the name "Screen Door Effect" -tech's blog: Screen Door Effect on LED screens
After 1 hour or less my eyes are irritated. Normally, with my old glorious inspiron, i works for more than 12 hours/day with absolutely no problems at the same resolution.

Both issues are with integrated intel 4000h enabled (nvidia k2000m only for 3d) or disabled (nvidia k2000m for all).

So ... have you same panel? (please, verify with the hwinfo utility)
And same problems? or other problems?

    Thank you all

Just put the money down. I feel excited and nauseous at the cost (even with the discount). Urgh.

I can just tell I am going to be jittery until it is resting in my hands.
