Anyone have any luck getting any updated drivers to work? The 296.79 that comes with the M4700 is old, although no official Nvidia drivers exists there are plenty of drivers on laptopvideo2go.

about the ips rgb screen color tint.

it seems they cant fix it so they offered me a downgrade...but since i buyed it because of the screen its no option for me.
so it seems m4700 users with the ips rgp panel has to live with it....not really great when you consider how much extra money you has to pay for.
i really wonder why dell dont just change the display...lg cant be the only one who offer such a panel

attached is a 3dmark11 benchmark of the k1000m(other system parts in my signatur) it had some problems to identify the graphic card and the driver for it.

do you work for Dell ?

it is Dell's responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction. as a customer i don't care where they got the panel from - that's their problem.

now you can say that all 15.6" IPS RGB notebooks are bad, but you can't say that it's not a Dell issue, because it is.

apple works closely with their suppliers - in fact apple tried to buy out some factories that make iphone components just to ensure that their supply chain won't fail them. also typically apple will have at least 2 different companies making iphone or ipad screens for redundancy.

there are several lines of 27" monitors by chinese manufacturers made out of 27" panels rejected by apple ( for $300 vs $900 apple product ). which means apple rejects enough panels for all those manufacturers to exist - and people who buy the chinese rejected panel monitors can't even see any defects in the panels ! ! !

and Dell just accepts any garbage laying on the floor and ships it to you - is that what you're saying ? i hope not ;)

i have a macbook pro, an imac, an iphone and an ipad and in the past i had another iphone and an ipod touch - and there was not a single flaw in any of the screens in any of these products.

by comparison out of my 4 samsung display and HDTV products 2 were defective - with rather horrendous uniformity problems. i had to ship a 60" samsung back to Amazon. as a matter of fact ALL ( 2 ) of my LED edgelit samsung display / tv products had uniformity issues beyond anything that can be considered acceptable. the two samsungs that were ok were CCFL backlit.

i think this says something about apple vs samsung vs dell

that samsung is even in business shows how stupid people are - you can sell them any junk

And you accept an iPhone with a horrible antenna design, hard to repair, etc. Each company has their issues. This thread is about the M4700, not Apple's supposed superiority. Those 300 dollar panels aren't just apple rejects. Apple just marks their hardware up by a huge margin.

the problem with apple is its like a lion - it kills the antelope - eats the juicy parts and leaves the rest for the vultures like dell who pick up what is left. the reason dell makes mobile workstations and acer makes netbooks is because apple could not be bothered to make that stuff - netbooks are too cheap to make money and mobile workstations too few.

so far the only company able to compete with apple head-on is samsung and the only product in which they are competitive is equipped with AMOLED ( not LCD ) display ...

so for the most part competing with apple is basically impossible at this time. i just want dell fanboys to realize and accept this fact. apple is number 1 because it is the best, period.

if you're in a market that apple chose to overlook, like mobile workstation, then you can buy a dell and it will be a good choice, but don't act like dell is on the same level as apple because it's not.

    :)

ps: apple isn't perfect either. for example stupid iCloud deleted all my contacts ... which was pretty bad ... i'm not sure if i will ever get over that.

but anyway my point is don't be an apologist for somebody who let you down - that's victim mentality.

oh really ? apple $980 27" display includes thunderbolt hub, webcam, microphone and pretty good speakers, with LED backlit IPS display with good uniformity.

DELL 27" display is not LED backlit, does not include webcam, mic, speakers or thunderbolt hub ... and costs $790

where is that huge margin you were talking about ? :)

hm ... i never had to repair my iPhones. i had to repair my macbook pro once ( replace the touch pad ) and it was a relatively smooth experience - i took it to the genius bar and picked it up 2 days later, repaired on warranty.

as for antenna i didn't have iPhone 4 that had the problem. in iPhone 4S that i use now they use two redundant antennas as far as i can tell and it switches to whichever one is not short circuited by your hand. i didn't experience any connection problems.

yes they did mess up with iPhone 4 antenna, but Jobs personally apologized for it. if Michael Dell goes on TV and personally apologizes for this screen uniformity thing then i will say Dell is playing on the same level as Apple :)

#1. A touchpad repair should take about 15 minutes tops for most laptops. You take off the top bezel, and replace it.

#2. Jobs initially said users were holding it wrong.

I'm done with this conversation. If you'd like to discuss apple products, look outside this thread. Thanks.

do you work for Dell ?

Do not work for them. I have used Precisions since the first 17" model (M90) was released.

it is Dell's responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction. as a customer i don't care where they got the panel from - that's their problem.

Agreed. The question becomes whether or not there is another supplier other than LG.

now you can say that all 15.6" IPS RGB notebooks are bad, but you can't say that it's not a Dell issue, because it is.

I did not say all. People have posted that the HP uses the same LG IPS screen. It made sense to me to check and see if HP machines were showing the same tint in the corners. Had their been no tint with HP, it would be a Dell implementation issue. Since there was tint in the HP as well, it leads me to believe it is a characteristic of the panel.

apple works closely with their suppliers - in fact apple tried to buy out some factories that make iphone components just to ensure that their supply chain won't fail them. also typically apple will have at least 2 different companies making iphone or ipad screens for redundancy.

That is very true. The reason the MBP 17 had 1920x1200 panel for so long was a 5 year contract they had. Once the contract ran out, no more 1920x1200 and no more MBP 17.

there are several lines of 27" monitors by chinese manufacturers made out of 27" panels rejected by apple ( for $300 vs $900 apple product ). which means apple rejects enough panels for all those manufacturers to exist - and people who buy the chinese rejected panel monitors can't even see any defects in the panels ! ! !

Never heard about that. Will have to look it up later when I get home.

and Dell just accepts any garbage laying on the floor and ships it to you - is that what you're saying ? i hope not ;)

You know they don't. And you d*mn well know I was not saying that. >;)

I think Dell is has to deal with the people that make the panels just like Apple. Don't forget when Apple had their yellow tint issues across their product lines.

i have a macbook pro, an imac, an iphone and an ipad and in the past i had another iphone and an ipod touch - and there was not a single flaw in any of the screens in any of these products.

I am glad that you did. I have a pair of iPhone 4s phones bought on the same day and the display color on my wife's phone is visibly more yellow/green than mine. The only reason I know Apple has variance between devices is that I had a point of reference to compare each of them to.

Do you work for Apple? For a thread on the M4700, this sure has been hijacked into an Apple fest.

Appomo: When you got your laptop with the battery slice, how did Dell send it to you?

Dell released my laptop to shipping as 2 parcels, given to UPS on Saturday. One of them, containing the battery, was tracked fine and reached me today. The other, presumably containing the laptop, is still listed as not being handed over to UPS "Order Processed: Ready for UPS".

    Bizarre.
