It does make a lot of noise in my opinion. I came from a THinkpad T500 which was silent(even when the fans were on full blast) compared to this machine. I will just web browse and have some word documents opened and the fans will just blast on sporadically and cycle like this on and off. I even set the power profile to "quiet", but it still does this. This was extremely annoying and frustrating at first, almost returned it, but lately I've been working in louder environments, so it's been less noticeable.

If you're coming from a very quiet notebook, the M4700 with the M4000 may seem loud, but if you're coming from a moderately loud laptop, the M4700 w/ M4000 is probably more bearable.

I seem to be having a slight problem with my M4700 and I'm looking for any advice. I'm not sure if it's hardware or user error at this point...

I have x64 Win 7, a k2000m GPU, optimus turned off, and all drivers freshly updated. Everything else works at this point, except that I am not getting any audio over HDMI to my TV (which is HDCP compliant).
I have tried everything I can think of, including updating drivers, playing with optimus, etc.
One thing I noticed was that there is no HDMI audio in 'playback' tab of the sound settings, only the IDT HD audio which is for the internal speakers/headphone jack. Even when I right clock and select the show disconnected and disabled devices.

Does the k2000m not support HDMI audio, or is there something I can do to get it working?

Just a question... When you installed the NVIDIA drivers, were you sure to check the box to include the HD audio driver? If you don't, you won't get audio over HDMI (but you won't see any errors in device manager). If you have the NVIDIA audio driver installed, you should see an "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" device in device manager, under "Sound, video, and game controllers."

Hmm... I'll do a clean reinstall of the video drivers and make sure it's set. I'll post back the results.

    Hi Guys,

i´ve used an internal USB M-Pcie Card for putting my Wirless Mouse Module inside the laptop, wich works well in the m-sata pcie slot. But now i´ve bought an Dell 5560 WWAN card and can´t use the m-sata port for the USB Card anymore. Now i wanted to use the half size pcie port wich is next to the Wlan slot and discovered that this port isn´t working. So now my question - did anyone of you managed to activate this port?

I'm not sure if that one works or not for USB stuff. Check the BIOS and make sure there are no settings for it. I know you have to switch modes for the wwan slot if you want to use it for a hard drive. It might be something similar.

    Hi TriBeard,

thanks for your answer. I checked the Bios Twice and didnt found any settings regarding the PCIe Slots - neither the wwan/Mssd Setting or Settings for the Krypto Card PCI Slot. I also tried my Wlan Card in this slot wich also didn´t work. Maybe i missed the Settings - do you know where to find?

I also discovered a compability Issue with Samsung 840 EVO 1 TB Drives in the Main Hard Drive caddy - a workaround is to put some foam into the Caddy to add more pressure to the sata connection to get this SSD working.

Just responding to the fan issue. I've been experiencing the same insane rinse/repeat fan noise as stated by someone else on his thread. I decided to try the "Ultra Performance" setting from the added Dell settings in the power options. It seemed counterproductive but after rebooting and the GPU hitting that magical 57c the fan came on but has stayed on with a steady moderate speed. The GPU temp as indicated by GPU-Z has fluctuated between 33c and 44c for the past two hours. The steady fan noise seems more tolerable than the cycling. BTW, Optimus has been turned off in the BIOS and updated the nVidia software to 33.495, not sure if that has any effect. Also, docked with one monitor.

Hi i solved the "Fan Issue" with a new Power Profile. Therefore i Used the Profile "Balanced" as base. Set the CPU max Power State at 30% oder 40% on AC and Battery. Also Passive Cooling also in AC and Battery mode and you got a quiet machine. If you need Power - turn on Blanced or an other Profile.

I use this setting all the Time and if the fan kicks in after a while it has no cycling.
