You're not alone. For people thinking about buying Dell precision mobile.. look else where.

That's really sad to hear. I was a vocal advocate of all things Dell. It's such a pity that the experience went bad when it could have easily gone the other way with only a few things done differently.

At each step in the troubleshooting process, it felt like such unnecessary hassle when it could easily have been handled differently (and presumably, at a lower cost to Dell). For example, when a system you ordered goes legs up on Day One of arrival, would it not be a simpler process to just have it replaced instead of having NBD service come over to you (three business days later at that). Everything from then on was just a bumbling mess.

Sadly, won't be recommending Dell Business line to anyone despite currently (happily) having three latitudes (e6510 x 2, e6410) in the family.

There is nothing wrong with Dell's machine (as in operable state). Dell's service operation strategy is just plain stupid. Just like you said, 3 business days just to get on-site service. Still better than depot hassle, but you know...

We are facing the same issue here with any PC using the 82579LM NIC + Win7 and are contacting dell about this ATM.
Have you had any positive response from dell on how to fix this issue without disabling WOL?

    Hi,
I have exactly the same issue.
    Dell M4700 & AMD M4000
ssnova703, did you manage to solve this issue?

    sandereerd, Dell asked me to:
    * perform BIOS update (which I already had). At that time, BIOS A08 was current. But even with A10, the issue exists. I just updated to A11, but haven't tested yet, whether or not the issue still persits.

    * Boot Windows into safe mode and check there - tested after system cold boot:
    * w/pure safe mode: no CPU load issue
    * safe mode w/network drivers: no CPU load issue
(At that time I was and still am on the factory installation of Windows 7)

    * Create a video record of the system running Windows desktop and showing the increased CPU load in Windows task manager, which I didn't do because I'm missing the benefit in here.

    * Perform diagnostic tests (ePSA diagnostics): all tests passed

    * Perform a Windows clean boot as per How to perform a clean boot in Windows. I didn't do that either. I thought I already did that by booting into safe mode?

    * I also tested with different versions of Ubuntu (13.04 / 13.10) - no CPU load issues here

After that, Dell told me that my HW seems to be OK and that they have forwarded my problem internally. Further, they advised me to activate Dell update notification.

So I simply deactivated Wake On LAN feature and since then I'm coping with the situation. No big deal for me anymore. Haven't heard from Dell again since then.

    M4700 w/ Nvidia video + BIOS A11

I just updated my machine to BIOS A11, mainly because of these acclaimed fixes:
    - Addressed no external video during POST when docked.
    - Fixed issue where no external video with KVM when docked.

    My environment:
    Nvidia K2000m w/ Optimus enabled
Dell 452-11506 Enhanced E-Port II port replicator USB 3.0 240Watt
    Dell monitor base stand 452-10777
My monitor (NEC MultiSync LCD 2190UXi) connected per DVI-D port from the monitor to the docking station, DVI video port 1.

With BIOS A10, I had no BIOS splash screen when the system was docked. Even after the BIOS sequence had finished, no screen (Ubuntu 13.10 GRUB 2 boot manager)
Now I'm on A11 and having the same issue still, and I expected the issue to be fixed with A11.

    What am I missing here?
Is this probably related to Nvidia Optimus being enabled? I haven't tried that (b/c disabling Optimus isn't really an option to me).
Also, there are no hints on the Dell website, that the fix may be related to Optimus in any way.

Anyone facing the same issue or can share some light into this for me?

Pretty similar setup with dock. Only way I got this to work..

    1. Disable Secureboot

    2. Enable OROMs

    3. Disable Optimus

Don't do 3 without 1 and 2... or you may find yourself pulling the bios battery.

Hey just wanted to let you all know I upgraded from a K2000m to a "FirePro M5100" in an M4700. So here are my results thus far:

    Drivers:
****NOTE**** - Don't forget to uninstall the video drivers BEFORE switching cards (like I did)
-Dell/AMD - CCC would install but no video driver
    -AMD AutoDetect didn't work
-Windows update actually pulled a working driver but BF4 acted flakey
-Beta 14.2 drivers worked file but got a .net/MOM.exe error so no CCC

    Working:
    -HDMI AUDIO
-2x U2713HM connected to the dock via displayport
    -Playing BF4

    Not working (yet):
-Resuming from sleep (just a black screen).

End result: Unless you really want/need it, I would hold off and just purchase the laptop that includes the video card

    Hi,

please let me know if you have some experiences whether the Dell M4700 & AMD M4000 during light use such as internet browsing, youtube and video watching (HD films) uses the GPU fan or not, how noisy the system with this usage.

I would use the system for regular works programming and doc writing however sometimes I do some video & picture editing but in case of this I do not care about the noise. I am only interesting when the system is under low usage whether the system is silent or not.

    Thanks,
