Yeah that is actually what i normally do. I render at the resolution of our A3 photo printer which is about 3200x2400 if i'm correct....that all goes pretty smooth.

Do you have any experience with the Maxtreme drivers from Nvidia for 3dsmax?

    I'll translate it:
I'll look up my video drivers version at home and edit this post.
I'll also write down any suggestions with working systems from the german community.

PS: I know u got A03 as solution, but some germans report problems with A03 too

Well...it's already known that the downclock doesn't happen with BIOS A03 so...think we just need something new from Dell.

Just ran 3dmark06 at an OC 0f 600 /900 / 1350 on the replacement system.

Got the same 6500+ result and it didn't go over 85c...using Bios A06 and the fans kicked in while benchmarking and slowed down after like they should!! No suck fans, no overheating....new system seems to be fine
Wasn't expecting this really....VERY glad it seems fixed here!!

How about to report us all Details of ur systemconfig?

What CPU? What graphics driver? and so on.

I like to build my system (as far as possible) identically to yours and test it. Maybe we finally have a fix...

Lol...yeah i've got dual boot...Vista Ultimate 64 and XP pro

    Just got a 6971 score in XP using OC 640 / 940 / 1390
The optimal clock button did show here in nvidia system tools but just doesn't under Vista. And yes, crashed when looking for optimal settings ;)

Temps stayed under 85 again, fans went down really fast after test and so did the temps.

So that's a 220+ difference between XP and Vista...same drivers etc. installed...all stock Dell

So it's Friday, I can start messing with the new laptop.

Do you recommend I run optimal settings or not?

I couldn't find optimal settings....crashed once while it was searching for it and decided to do it by hand. Maybe i'll try later but optimal from chrous seems a bit high too set by hand here.
