I ran about 4 tests, for some reason overclocking more doesn't help and drops the 3DMark06 results. Average of the four tests: 7437.5

I can live with 7000, more than enough for me. Anything above is a bonus. Plus playing Half-Life 2:Episode 2 on max with a mid-range Quadro OC is more fun than Crysis Warhead :D.

Yup...think i've found the sweet spot for me too. Got a 7106 now with clocks @ 710 / 900 / 1600....no artifacts/color shifts or anything. Results are indeed more than enough!

Crysis sucks....gameplay is terrible, been playing Far Cry 2 which is pretty cool except for all the guard posts that keep getting manned :( Maybe gets more fun when i can buy a decent sniper rifle lol....but enough off topic ;)

Thanks for all the advice! Hope others benefit from all our experimenting too!!

You did this without me :(??? I want to learn about this and do it on my new PC, is there a tutorial for this? And have you noticed your system being any cooler?

I pretty much found my sweet spot too, very close to the optimal settings from system tools:

    Awww sorry bud...LOL
Yeah there's a tutorial at the arctic silver site...google "applying arctic silver" The onlt difference is that the tutorial explains how to apply it too a CPU with heatspreader cap and with us the cpu just connects to the large heatsink directly. I kinda followed the directions except i applied the amount described and then spread it out with a bankcard so it's fully covered in a thin layer of AS5. With the GPU you need to take care that you don't spread the stuff around the metal itself because it can conduct electricity. I'd try the preading out on any other small bit of flat metal or plastic to get a feel how it handles.

So covered it with a thin film, put the heatsink on, take it off and check if the whole chip still has AS5 on it, if needed add a tiny bit too places that don't seem to have any on it.

Have some rubbing alcohol ready and a lenscloth too thoroughly clean everything first. Googlle around for more tips though!!

There's also ceramic paste you could use which is non-conductive and maybe a bit safer.

Temps went down a bit (2-3 degrees) but it takes some time for AS5 to kinda burn in and have full effect (200 hours of warming up and cooling down)

good luick if you're gonna try and try to read up on it as much as you can.

and.....YOUR SCORE IS WAAAAAY TOO HIGH!!! dammit!!! lol

Sweet, thanks for the info. Let me know when that 200 hours starts to become worth it and I will apply AS5 too :D.

The new system has not locked up at all yet :D, been messing with it a lot too. This new AUO screen has a good bright white/blue tint to it while the Samsung had a sunlight yellowish one, ick! Glad I got rid of that one.

With system tools on this new M4400, I made 2 profiles. I found exactly where to stop before getting artifacts. One profile is 600/900/1450 - this is my "LOW" overclock for older games that can easily max out (bioshock, half life, etc). The second profile is 743/934/1699, my "HIGH" overclock, for Crysis WH, HL2:EP1/2, and hopefully Left 4 Dead when it releases. Left some room for in-game intense heating with these numbers as well.

    Using a WXGA+

LPTP: Some people at a different forum on NBR say use ATI Tool and run the artifact check for an hour. I'm thinking of doing this, as its very possible for our GPU to burn up and overcook itself during gaming while we don't notice it, regardless of what it does during system tools or 3DMark06. We kill our warranties that way :( so I definitely dont want to throw away 3 years of great support for some measly OCing

Hey guys just to sum up. Does bios ver A06 fix it so that you can play games at a consistent high FPS? no jerkyness/freezing going on? Thanks.
